I have noticed our 646x3010 feature window in the kitchen has many very obvious scratches from when they have removed the mortar off the window. I will be bringing it up with the SS but I have a feeling they are going to pretty unhappy changing the glass on this window as they have already replaced the window once (wrong size) and weren't happy then as it is an $800 window. Is there something they could do that would remove the scratches rather than replacing the window? Their problem - and they should do it without any fuss... but yes there are ways to remove scratches. But really it's your builder's problem... pm me if you really need to do it yourself... the glass would cost about $100... Leave it to them... they could have protected it for about $5. They didn't... Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. Don't try, just insist - if it's visible from 1.5 metres they have no choice... Ed said so... Is there something they could do that would remove the scratches rather than replacing the window? The same thing happened to me but only to 25 of my window panels. When we had our inspection the builder agreed to replace all the glass (5 panels were toughened glass on the sliding doors). He said it was his fault for forgetting to order the plastic to cover the windows. Here I was thinking they would try and get out of it and they were really nice about it. Re: Can scratches be removed from a window? 6Sep 01, 2009 1:25 pm Hi, The windows are scratched because the builder has employed some people that have NO idea how to do a " builders clean" the builders at the end of construcion have limited funds available for the clean up and usually accept the cheapest quote to do the job. These people are unskilled and so scratch the hell out of the glass. Also it could be " comfort plus " glass and thats a whole new story. DONT accept the GLASS as you will be reminded everyday that you live there and it will annoy the hell out of you. The builder has insurance. Tell him you want qualified VERY experienced window cleaners to do the job. What state are you in ? A lot of the windows did have film on them and "someone" removed it, so everything got covered in mortar and now lots of scratches! It's really not your problem. It's the builder's problem, and the window supplier if the plastic was inadequate. Presumably the bricklayers could either call the supervisor and advise him the windows were not covered or the supervisor could see for himself when he visited. Expect it fixed at no cost.
