Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Aug 18, 2009 2:07 pm You know curtains, right? Well, I’ve established that I want a pelmet. Now I want a fabric pelmet, not a solid wall one. But I’m a bit unsure about curtains. I know what I LIKE in terms of the look of the type of pleat, but is there anything else more than aesthetics as to why you’d choose a certain type of pleat over another? I’ve seen some curtains that seem rather stiff and thick, and don’t pull across that easily, and always seem to leave gaps at either end. There doesn’t seem to be quite “enough” curtain, even though I’m sure there really is. Also, when pulled back, they seem to resist going all the way back, so take up more of the window than you want, when they’re open. Even if you have those things that hold them back to each side, the curtains can still seem stiff and thick and almost fake somehow. I don’t want the above. There’s nothing terribly wrong with it, but they’re the type of curtain I have now and it’s just not my ideal. What I do want is NOT a floppy, too-long and messy, thin looking curtain, but I want them to have ample material so they can glide easily open and closed and fill the window properly, and also when they’re open fully, they don’t take up a heap of window space. Having said that though, I don’t like the look of those teeny skinny curtains that when open, look about an inch wide. Does any of this make any sense at all? lol. And does any of this relate to the type of pleat? (if I get pinch pleat for instance, will it give me what I want as opposed to say, pencil pleat? I think my current curtains are pencil pleat) Thank you! How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Yet another curtain question 2Aug 18, 2009 2:22 pm if you have a pelmet you will be hidding the heading (top) of the curtain, thus a pencil pleat is usually used. There are many factors that affect the way the curtain drapes eg main fabric, lining(s), the method used for construction, the skills of the person making them. Heading and the quality of track/pole will affect how easy they are to draw close or open. Heading will also affect the amount of space the curtain takes up when opened. Design & wall space (either side of window) can help to reduce the amount of window the opened curtains take up. hope that helps Hi, Apologies - I know there is plenty out there on this but struggling to put together the puzzle. Cabinetmakers use MDF because its cheap… 2 9962 I would say both styles you have pictured are steel. The lower chord of the first pic would be a massive lump if made using timber considering the size of the rafters. If… 1 6156 |
