Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 May 31, 2007 7:50 am After having our new house re-tiled, the floor level changed so I went to plane the bottom of the pocket doors (the sliding doors that go into the wall cavity).
I planed off right into the hollow core! The finished height of the door panel is now 2010. What is the solution? Do I fill the void with a block of timber so I can attach the nylon slides or is it new door time? Do they make doors that can be cut down to 2010, with 2040 being the standard size, I believe? Re: Trimming pocket doors 2May 31, 2007 8:51 am I would make a new bottom rail to fit firmly inside the veneer & tight up to the side rails.
Run several shallow grooves across the rail [vertical] so that there will be adhesive still on the rail when you slip it in. Use a good quality adhesive, clamp the lot up & leave the pressure on for several days until its completely cured. It's always better [in retrospect] to take some off both top & bottom but this is not always a solution if you need to shorten the door by a large amount.
