Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jul 27, 2009 4:44 pm We wish to knock out a wall, or at least part of it. The wall is 2760, i don't think it is weight bearing as it is a high set house that has been built in. Currently it is part of our bedroom and we wish to turn it into a parents retreat, ie mini lounge style/ office that joins on to the bedroom. The room we are extending into is 2760 by 3070, so it is not overly big. We want to be able to close off the two seperate rooms, if we have vistors, as we are wanting to put a sofa bed in there. We want to be able to open it as much as possiable as well. What options do we have? We don't have any idea where to start We are very late 20's with 2 kids, wanting to invest in real estate and get of the working treadmill. Re: What door options have i got 2Jul 27, 2009 7:16 pm Before anything you need to confirm whether the wall is load bearing or not. Once thats sorted, you coould look at french doors, stackers or bi-folds to start with Re: What door options have i got 3Jul 27, 2009 8:24 pm In your situation, I would be going for double cavity sliders. They won't encroach on either room, but can be opened up to give an open plan feel. They will also provide reasonable sound-proofing if you have guests sleeping in the next room. If you have the room for hinged doors, french doors will give you the best privacy, but if you have them open all the time they might be in the way. Are maybe thinking bi folds... what is the difference between bifolds and fi fold french doors? We are very late 20's with 2 kids, wanting to invest in real estate and get of the working treadmill. Re: What door options have i got 6Jul 28, 2009 7:10 pm Essentially a bi-fold is one door cut in half and hinged to fold back on itself. Bi-fold french doors would be two of these which meet together when closed My door tends to rub against the frame during winter and I'm looking to fix it so it closes smoothly.
