Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jul 15, 2009 11:19 am In this thread I released some news about Burbank Homes which wasn't really news as it had not been agreed and confirmed. Unfortunately this caused some people a lot of angst so I have withdrawn the information. I unreservedly apologise to Burbank Homes. Shame it's a bit late for us, we've built a Burbank Stoneleigh and coughed up $14k to updrage the windows & sliding doors to Bradnams double glazed units (I don't want to hear if they are no good - that was the only choice at the time). We poppied up another $5k for a double glazed bifold door and another couple of k's to swap out two sliding doors for Fenchies. So, great news for anyone about to build with BB. Still, we can't complain as we're only a few short weeks from hand over.......and to say I'm excited is the biggest understatement EVER. Was looking to get the double glazed window when I build, hopefully it'll be even better by then There is no better deal from any builder than getting something at cost. Plus the deal you mentioned at no extra costs, sounds good! How much is the base price though? Just hope it's not too far from my budget. It fits the land I bought well too. If the price is right, I'm seriously considering this! Re: BURBANK - Double Glazing Offer - Ideal Range of Homes-ThankU 8Jul 15, 2009 9:33 pm ed @ EcoClassic badcliq Excellent deal! Ed It is a pity you do not have similar deal with Carlisle Homes or we would be all over the double glazing! We are even currently thinking of having a light coloured roof to help keep the place cooler in summer. But all in all congrats on the negotiation and deal, double glazing is going to become even more important come the 6 star requirements. Also props to Burbank for getting ahead of the other builders on this one. Re: BURBANK - Double Glazing Offer - Ideal Range of Homes-ThankU 9Jul 15, 2009 11:09 pm Ed, I went to check out your windows today Went to the 'displays' at Mernda only to find out that they are still under construction and not displays as of yet But the lovely tradies let me in anyway so I could check out your windows Couldnt open and close them as they were locked so Ill have to go back again when the display is actually open, but they look good! Leave no room for other costs like driveway, fencing, other upgrades, etc. I guess I'll give this a skip for now. Leave no room for other costs like driveway, fencing, other upgrades, etc. I guess I'll give this a skip for now. Unless my boss is nice enough to give me some payrise Jeez - is that base price for the Stoneleigh? When we signed up for ours the base price was $225k, (January 08). We added the double glazed upgrade, a few French doors, a Bi-fold door, stone benches & glass balustrades. By the time we finished the end result was $345k. The extras rack up so quickly, then when you think you have covered all the big ticket items you find that nice bricks, nicer range of paint colours, nice floor tiles are all in higher categories than what is allowed for in the base price. We probably added $15k just in our colours selection once we had signed up the initial tender. Then, that excludes drives, fencing etc. We could have spent more too! Like most builders, you don't get much for your base price and generally no where near what the display houses have. When we signed up they told us the 'as displayed' price of the Stoneleigh on The Chase was $297k (based on a $225 base price). However, it later turned out that that was rubbish as they hadn't costed it properly. Based on what we spent, and what is in the display, I would say the as displayed on the Chase would have been around $330+ (excluding external works). That would have been Jan 08 prices on a $225 base. I know a lot of the upgrades have also jumped up in price. The sliding theatre door option was $1900 when we added it. I'm told it's over $4k now! This is one of the reasons I decided to go overseas for my double glazed windows.
