Hi
In Australia many people want window locks either because they just want them for security or they say their insurance company requires them.
Some of the best window hardware around the world does not provide for locks (e.g. Truth). In the USA they are not legal because locks prevent emergency egress if there is a fire. There are plenty of examples of fatalities because doors and windows are locked.
First of all, is this insurance reason real, my policy does not mention it?
If it is real, and if you are in the insurance industry - can you explain this seemingly dangerous and illogical requirement. I cannot see how it prevents theft as the glass has to be broken to access the winder or catch - and then the thief can enter via the gaping hole. The fire dept recommends leaving the keys in the lock or handy.
What does everyone think?
Thanks
Ed
