Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jul 08, 2009 11:42 am Hi everyone. This looks like a great forum, I have already learnt a lot for our home build. I have set up a blog at: http://room4acubby.blogspot.com/. My current question is about which way to orient a window in our rumpus room or what peoples opinions are on a door in this room. I woud love some feedback. Here is the plan as it stands. If it's a traditional rumpus room (ie kids room, extra living area, or billiard room), then personally I would change the door position to the north wall and integrate it into the alfresco/backyard entertaining area. I would also widen the door if used in this way. I would also go as far as saying that I would extend the alfresco to the rumpus (if not the whole structure, then at least the path). You could also add a highlight strip window, or a series of smaller windows at a higher level to the west wall if you still wanted a window on that wall. THe room will be well lit, but won't feel like it's surrounded by windows, and you'll still have plenty of wall space along that wall. A north facing door may not work as well with a home theatre set up however. You also have the option of putting a door into the alfresco area itself and creating the possibility of opening the area up into one big entertaining area. Some people however may not like having multiple doors leading out to the alfresco. Ideally we would like to start the room as a kids play room and then turn it into a study room then home theatre room, hence the highlight windows rather than anything too big. The idea of extending the Alfresco is good, however I want to have quite a bit of garden along the side area and I like the current arrangement of having the Alfresco under that small bit of roof. A west facing window will make the room hot in summer, though there are things you can do to alleviate that, awnings, pergolas, etc. Re: West or North Facing Windows or Doors 5Jul 09, 2009 9:11 pm Macy, Thanks for that we to the East of Melboure, that's why I want to put the windows on the North of the Rumpus and the need for a pergola on the West. Similar to what you see from your western windows 3 19987 The warning is on the sticker on the door too. Second the aluminium powdercoat 6 18198 I don't know them all, the first 2 top of your list are best known. Rylock is a good company, Stegbar is for sale. 4 16233 |
