Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jul 07, 2009 6:45 pm This is probably a SILLY question, but if we double glaze our windows, will window coverings make much difference to the amount of heat/cool in the windows? BTW - our home will be on 100 acres so this is not a question of privacy!! I don't mind being woken up early by the sun - gotta get up early to feed the stock anyway - but just wondering if the double glazing is going to hold the heat in on those cold early mornings? You might need them for the hot or cold season and not for the other? You could always pull them aside if that is the case. I guess there is always the argument that your guests may not appreciate getting up with the sunrise and perhaps during sickness (flu etc) you may prefer curtains. I would test it out and see what you require. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: I still need curtains? 3Jul 19, 2009 7:49 am we are on 3/4 of an acre. my youngest who is almost 11 was quite upset when i told him we were putting window furnishings on. Re: I still need curtains? 4Jul 20, 2009 12:06 am Double glazing does not replace the benefits of curtains, but it does make the windows perform better than single glazed windows. Single glazed with heavy curtains is slighty better than just double glazing on it's own. This article will asssit in explain it for you. Basically you get an extra 20 to 30% improvement on ANY window by fitting heavy curtains with pelmets. http://www.sustainability.vic.gov.au/resources/documents/Window_protection.pdf have you used any of the motorised curtain systems available from Ebay?
