Coming from the UK where it's standard practice it surprises me that it isn't done as standard over here. It's not like we don't need it in Aus in the winter. Is it standard down in Victoria or Tasmania at least? it has certainly been pretty cold the last few weeks! Hey bob, Just curious, with the kind of weather we've been getting, how cold has your house been getting? I am hoping without going double glazing and just having roller blinds our house will be relatively comfortable with the cold weather. I know here in Sydney west now, the house we're renting we've been getting around 16 celsius in the mornings inside the house (if we don't turn the heater on) for the last week. I'm hoping with the basix requirements we will be able to stay a bit warmer inside the house! Worst case scenario, we're planning to double glaze the master bedroom & ensuite only so we wake up to a relatively warm room :p. Nav we are renting atm. i have no idea about wall or roof insulation in this house but we had 14C indoor in the morning. ...well cat opened garage door a bit. i put some semi-heavy curtain on patio door last winter. it helps a bit at least we cant feel the cold draft from there...but i was told it looks too woggy Re: wisdomhomes and double galzed windows 9Jun 14, 2009 10:42 pm Nav bobbuilder No, but wish we had with this cold weather. Nav It's been about 15-16 inside the house in the mornings this week when I've checked the air con control panel (that's before heating). We're on energy austrlia's smart home pricing so putting the heating on before 7 is a bit cheaper than it would normally be. Geez, they make up for it between 2-8pm though! Double glazing the master and ensuite sounds mighty fine to me. Mind you, it is only 2 months of the year it's cold. I remember the days of standing on the platform in london waiting for a train that never showed up in sub zero weather for several months of the year. brrrr. Haha, I should be immune to the cold, until about 4 years ago I was living in Canada and had winter temperatures of -20 to -45 celsius (even colder with windchil). Came here in Australian winter and thought it was hot the first year I was here, but every year I stay here I find it colder and colder . To think I used to be able to throw away the trash in -30 celsius weather wearing only t-shirt and shorts lol. Our rental - although a new house - has no wall insulation (or it's really crappy and the house has leaks somewhere) - we wake up to 11C in Mt Druitt My parents have roller blinds and there are quite a few gaps so you don't get good thermal efficiency on the window coverings (compared to pelments and curtains) After 4 years - we're in! I might have to put up with hating them though if it means having a more comfortable home in winter. We're still debating what we will do but cielly and me both like the look of the roller blinds. p.s. Sorry to the opening poster as this thread is going way off topic. I suggest you go and have a look to Trend's showroom (44-52 Mandoon Road, Girraween) to see by yourself the difference between the standard and the Quantum range. I did ask for another quote for the Upvc windows double glazed upgrade...when the said $45,000... ...I think I nearly had a heart attack ! Hope this helps, Fred PS: I still find weird to ask for this upgrade, as where I'm from (France) this has been the standard for decades, they're up to triple glazing overthere!!
