Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 May 24, 2009 11:54 pm Hi everyone Just a question We are at the moment deciding on the front door and not sure what to do. I want a nice solid door with a bit of glass in it, but if we are to get a security door, no need to get a nice door that no one will see... The reason why we would like a security door is that we would like to open our front door and the backyard door and create a corridor of air in summer. So my question is: is there anything that will achieve both? My husband thinks there must be doors that are solid with glass but the glass can be opened somehow. I hope you understand what i mean Please help Nina "The fearless are merely fearless. People who act in spite of their fear are truly brave" - James A. LaFond-Lewis Re: Entrance door question 2May 25, 2009 12:17 am Hi Littlemoscow, You could go with one of the new stainless steel mesh type security doors. It's just like looking through a flyscreen, no grates or bars to spoil the veiw. That way you can go with what ever entrance door takes your fancy You can see an example here, but do your research as not all are the same quality: http://www.ezyfitdoors.com.au/stainless-steel-security-doors-screen.html Re: Entrance door question 3May 25, 2009 9:57 am Nina, this may not be exactly what you are looking for, but it may give you some ideas. These are Corinthian doors and they have fully openable louvres in either Merbau or glass. http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u353/joles_photo/CALMBmain.jpg http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u353/joles_photo/CALGBmain.jpg I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Thanks for the link. My tac-home-ter: Been in 8 months! Re: Entrance door question 5May 26, 2009 9:31 pm Little moscow I have not seen your plan but if you do have windows aswell as a back door in your living area you might not have to use your front door for the wind tunnel. If you do not spend alot of time at the front try and consider having your nice solid wood front doors. Alternatively I would have a plain security front door and a nicely painted plain front door and spend the money on a nice pot or some slightly grown plants for your front door to add to your facade. Obviously just an opinion as I am all about the facade and my plan doesn't warrant the front /back wind tunnel. Your house is looking fantastic by the way, very impressive OB. I admire anyway who takes on this challenge. Re: Entrance door question 6May 27, 2009 12:04 am Hi Little Moscow We are going to have a transom (an opening window highlight above the door). There is no way I want a security screen covering up my front door but I agree with you - very important to let the breeze through. There is of course the question of how to open it, but I am 167cm and I can reach upto atleast 2200 so shouldn't be a problem to stretch up and and turn the handle. I wonder if the window would be cheaper than the security door? I know the nice old lady collecting money for charity is probably not dangerous, but I'm happier being on the other side of a screen! Also so my dogs can see out but if a cat runs past, the screen door is strong enough to hold them inside (and so if someone does come to the door I can talk to them without having to wrestle the dogs at the same time!) My tac-home-ter: Been in 8 months! The warning is on the sticker on the door too. Second the aluminium powdercoat 6 18203 Thanks for your thoughts. Do you feel your louvre sidelite security mesh is safe? I was thinking no window at all so no one can see if I'm near the front door, shadows… 2 715 Black on light wood does look good. Not sure if it will be as long lasting as a steel finish? 6 6353 |
