Browse Forums Windows & Doors Re: Closing off the ensuite with a door ... 21Jun 02, 2009 10:41 am I have put a cavity sliding door on the ensuite and also one each on the WIR. You walk through to the ensuite with a WIR on either side in the master bedroom. Re: Closing off the ensuite with a door ... 22Jun 04, 2009 1:39 pm DeeElle ours is all open .. we designed it to be open plan. Hasn't been a problem except DD barreled her way into my ensuite the other day when I was in there, and bought her gfriend along with her . Most of the time it works for us fine . It's funny though isn't it because kids don't care about those things. Mine would still just stand there and have a conversation with me as if this was an everyday normal thing to do. It's funny as a parent what you get used too. Re: Closing off the ensuite with a door ... 23Jun 17, 2009 3:27 am kek I think it's simply that the displays look lovely with lots of open flow-through areas. It makes spaces seem bigger. Completely impractical for actually living in, of course, especially whern one of you sometimes gets up at 4:30am. . This reminded me, kek, of a display home we looked at in Mernda where the lounge room shared a doubled fronted gas heater with the master bedroom. Yes, you could see straight through the heater to the bed! Not very practical unless the potential owners are much more into exhibitionism than my wife and I. Pfiff Finally making progress again, with a clothesline (yippee) and some much needed little things being attended to over the holidays. 40 C on New Year's eve? We love our a/c! Re: Closing off the ensuite with a door ... 24Jun 21, 2009 2:46 pm I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who doesn't like the "open" ensuite design! I'm going to be building the Milan 2200, and you have to walk through the WIR to the ensuite (which is not only open, but has a "half height" wall next to the toilet... yikes!). I have asked for a full wall to be installed there, and a normal door. I know it won't look as nice as an internal cavity door, but it should block out the noise better - and it was a lot cheaper to fit (about $320 for the wall + normal door, compared to about $470 for the wall + internal cavity door). I'm going to leave my WIR open though... I'm a clean freak, so the view into the WIR won't be bad anyway (and I didn't want to go too much over my budget!). Later on I might retrofit a door or something.... Re: Closing off the ensuite with a door ... 25Jun 21, 2009 4:24 pm I'm not a fan of the open ensuite either, noise being one issue, privacy...even from the DH being another and I don't necessarily want to look at the basins and bath all the time. So...we put in Shoji screens, they aren't as good a noise blocker as a normal door would be, but the look was very important, as always. If so - how much did it cost? I like that... (and is giving me ideas - maybe this might be a good thing for the open WIR!) Re: Closing off the ensuite with a door ... 27Jun 24, 2009 12:26 pm webbiegareth Oh wow - very nice! Did you do that yourself, after handover? If so - how much did it cost? I like that... (and is giving me ideas - maybe this might be a good thing for the open WIR!) Our builder went broke so we finished it off ourselves, but it was to be part of the plan anyway. I would have to check on the price, we were paying progress payments for several things from that company so not sure what they were along. We were initially going to have glass sliding doors (frosted) but the company that does those stopped doing sliders for some reason, BUT our wardrobe doors are white glass sliders with aluminium strips and I think we could have had those as well but they would have been much heavier to slide Re: Closing off the ensuite with a door ... 28Jun 24, 2009 12:38 pm Even the doors to your ensuite are stunning, SuH!!!!!!!!!!! You have to walk past our WIRs to our ensuite, and the loo is hidden, behind the bath, sort of around the corner. We couldn't really put a door in, b/c of the angles of the walls. Luckily, the way the room works, you don't see in to the ensuite from the bedroom. Having said that, I would always go for a door on an ensuite if I could!!! Our kids' BRs all have an ensuite - and they just come off the room, with no door standard! Who wants to look into a bathroom from the bed, or if they have a friend over, they're not going to want to use the loo if there's no door!!!!!! We had cavity sliders put on each, as that was the only door that would work. They work well for where they are. Love yours, though, SuH - they look great, as well as work well!!! Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Closing off the ensuite with a door ... 29Jun 24, 2009 1:04 pm photogirl DeeElle ours is all open .. we designed it to be open plan. It's funny as a parent what you get used too. In our old house there was the one bathroom with toilet and everything in it, sometimes all 4 of us were in there in the morning, me shower, wife drying hair,son1 on dunny, son 2 brushing teeth!! Now that the older one thinks it's terrible to be naked in front of anyone or see anyone else naked so even the rental is better because it has a separate toilet and there is no powerpoint for the hair dryer. We have a door on the new ensuite, we considered putting a slider but in the end went with a hinged one because of the sound issue, in hindsight it will also shield the toilet from being seen if the door to the bedroom is open and the ensuite door not shut. And this is definitely a very good reason to have it closed off, dunny issues, I do have a separate toilet in there..... with a hinged door..... and a lock. Re: Closing off the ensuite with a door ... 36Jul 07, 2009 10:05 am Thanks..hmm expensive but they look beautiful SuH These three doors were just under $4000 Mrs B...how are you thank you for your lovely words, I hear your house is to-die-for so you too should be very proud. Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6128 the step up is 30mm and wanting it to be flat . how much does the concrete have to be lowered .we plan on removing bath and lenghten shower and adding seat. the old bath… 0 11829 |
