Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 May 06, 2009 2:10 pm We are looking to install a new, west facing entrance to our home. There is no shade and the heat in summer really impacts on our timber window frames (which we are looking to replace). As I am not good with regular timber maintenance I am looking for (reasonable) alternatives to timber doors. Alternatively, any suggestions on low maintenance, timber treatments would be most appreciated!!! Any thoughts PLEASE? With thanks in advance. Sorry, I am new to this ... I should clarify - as the door will be our main entrance I was hoping to find something without glass (i.e - solid). The wall opening will allow us to fit a door of about 1m wide. progress viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20401 sculptures viewtopic.php?f=36&t=26607 pole trouble viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25988 Re: house entrance - is timber only option? 2May 06, 2009 4:25 pm seeking solutions We are looking to install a new, west facing entrance to our home. Sorry for the quick hi-jack.... Ed they sound great. Similar to the Corinthian laundry door. I seriously considered the internal blind for the double front doors, but they don't have them in the higher door. So make sure you do them in the bigger size! Perfect solution to the eternal "I love my glass front doors for the light but how do I get complete privacy once it gets dark?" question. Oh... and an option on the colour of the internal blind would be good too. Again... sorry for the hi-jack seeking solutions. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Done, thanks Jo... joles Oh... and an option on the colour of the internal blind would be good too. Great idea... will follow-up. BTW, we have these we are just working out the effect of having a large blind in a moving door, & will it work well over time. Would you have a pic or a website I can look at please? its dowell, they are who av jennings use, go to their website and you can get a tech manual, you can basically do any size/variation on a french door model, however, whoever does your sliding doors or windows is definitley going to be able to do the same for you i don't have any photos, our house is still in planning. But your basically looking at having what most commercial premises have as an entry door, aluminium framed - glass door, that probably doesn't help, i'll post some pictures when it goes up, i don't know when we'll get to lock up..i'm looking at maybe 6 months Re: house entrance - is timber only option? 16Jul 12, 2009 1:57 pm ed @ EcoClassic You can have a glazed French door style entry in an aluminium frame... They also had aluminium / stained glass sidelights on either side of the doors. Not my personal taste but it looks as new as it did 15yrs ago. Some things are worth waiting for.
