I'm looking at filling a 10-12m area (waiting finalised plans) with a bi fold door combination and after seeing different styles and types at the homeshow I'm wondering if the 6-leaf system I'm looking at would be ridiculously heavy when double glazed. I'm looking at timber frames (I've considered PVC and Aluminum but I love the look of the timber ones too much). Tel. 1800 326 326 Re: Double Glazed Bi-Fold Doors and weight 3May 01, 2009 9:50 am Hi This may not answer your entire question: We looked at converting our bifolds to double glazing, but told we couldn't. not because they were bifolds and the weight concern you raise, but because of the the width of the bifolds were too wide. They have to be under 600mm width (each panel ) Reason being- as you said, they become too heavy and the manufacturer cannot guarantee the frame can support not can you actually open the bifolds smoothly.
