Basically it says that for openable windows they need steel, aluminium or bronze mesh with holes no bigger than 1.8mm. External doors need weather strips or draft excluders and the above tight-fitting screens, again. The standard has been revamped just 2 weeks ago (AS 3959 2009) and it's not clear which level this one comes under - aluminium is used in the lower levels and stainless (or bronze) in the higher levels. Check before you buy, or just buy stainless (bronze is expensive). You supplier should know... We have been told we will be a BAL 19 (mid range) so that includes many changes. I will post when we get flyscreen costs. I just want a bl@@dy home! We have a friend who is building in Healesville not far from the kinglake fires on black saturday. Now where his block is located they are LOW so they do not require anything. I have been told if you are in a medium area you may require wire security door and roller shutters in each window. So thats where the $15,000 comes into it as they are $1000 estimate for each window.
