Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Apr 06, 2009 1:59 pm Hi, We're about to begin building with Scott Park Homes in Perth. To upgrade our double entry doors to something we like is very expensive... over $500 each. To buy the same doors from Bunnings will be $200 Is it worth our while to remove the doors from the contract, get a small refund and get a 3rd party to install the doors and locks etc (after we've painted them). ? How much does it cost to install a door & locks ? Thanks Re: Remove double doors from contract? 2Apr 06, 2009 3:14 pm I'd imagine you could install them yourself if you were handy with a drill? But I'm not too sure on that. However you would need to have the bulkhead and frame for the door to be able to install them with ease. Otherwise you may need a plasterer and chippy to set up the frame for the door to be able to install it. That may be costly and you'd need to do a new paint job. So you might need to leave standard doors in the contract and change them later. At least that way everything will be in place such as door jam and hinges, so you will only need to paint and hang the new doors, you could probably do that yourselves. I am thinking about doing this inside the house, eg replacing some plain doors with featured ones for about half the price of what the builder charges. Re: Remove double doors from contract? 4Apr 06, 2009 4:50 pm Our builder has said that they can put dummy doors in until we install our own. I want them professionally installed, I dont want to install them myself. I have no idea how much it costs to get them installed however.
