Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Apr 05, 2009 9:23 pm Hello to everyone on this forum, seems like a good place full of ideas and helpful hints. I have decided to undertake some home reno's and im currently in the planning stage of putting a fourth bedroom in my house. To do this we will need build a wall and modify another, resulting in an extended hallway and another room. It seems like a fairly straight forward process until i come to the door at the end of the hallway which opens onto the rest of the house. Normally you would put it in the center at the end of the hallway, but if i do this the opening will go straight onto the back of my kitchen bench, and putting a simple offset door in a hallway would be plain silly. The only options i can think of is to center the door cavity and cut about a foot off the end of my bench as well as cut the floor tiles & extend the floorboards. Quite a big job, or cut the centered door cavity and off-set the entrance by using door a partition on the side that would open on to the kitchen bench. I have included some pics to give you an idea of what im talking about. [img][/img] The wall on the left hand side (1st pic) will extend all the way down (mirror image of the right hand side wall), and the door cavity will be around where the mirror is. The 2nd pic shows the other side of the wall where the kitchen bench and flooring problem is. Any ideas or suggestions on the best way to tackle this problem would be appreciated. Ok, i was just about to relegate this thread to the too hard basket I will draw up a sketch of what is and what i want and post it up ASAP. Re: Hallway door problem 4Apr 15, 2009 5:35 pm I've been looking and looking at your pics and I reckon why can't you offset the door? Visually it is going to be narrower when the wall is built, so where you place your carpet runner and maybe a really stunning pot in the corner would draw the line of sight away from the problem. Forget the stairs in the photo, the door is off-set, but look at the corner! If I walked into that hallway, I wouldn't be looking at the door! You could do that. I think your hallway will look fantastic! The difference with my situation and your picture is that in the picture the door opens into a open area, whereas my door would be at the end of a hallway. I have photo shopped one of the images i posted before. Could they fold to one side? Perhaps bi folds would not be the look you want. Just a thought. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Hallway door problem 7Apr 19, 2009 10:47 am I had another look at this when i got notification of the previous poster. Would you be able to bring the door back to where the door on the right is? It would be a smaller hall, but when you opened the door to the kitchen there would be like a little entrance area near the bench in kitchen. Just a thought!
