Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Feb 11, 2009 10:14 pm I am finalising my plans at the moment and cant make up my mind which window layouts to go in the wider (over 2m) windows that require more than 2 sections.
The most common layout seems to be 3 sections with the 2 small outside sections as the sliders opening into the middle. (X O X) This does leave a nice clean large unobstructed panel in the centre when closed but only leaves 2 small openings either end when the windows are open. The other option is to divide the window into 4 equal sections and the 2 middle sections open outwards creating one big opening in the middle. (O X X O) This does mean there is a frame down the middle when closed and the security mesh is in the middle rather than either side. but i like the one big opening Which way to go What are your thoughts on the pros and cons of each design Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: sliding windows, which layout do you prefer and why 2Feb 12, 2009 6:33 am Both have the same ventilation oppotunity. I prefer the single large fixed centre panel.

I have had this one and found it ok as I never open windows fully anyway. they will each open half way before they butt up and I found this fine. Think about curtains or blinds. If the curtains or blinds open outwards, you don't want your sliding windows to be on the ends. Is my thinking correct? If the curtains or blinds open outwards, you don't want your sliding windows to be on the ends. Is my thinking correct? Yes, seems the majority of blinds open outwards or to one end so you end up with one window half blocked by blinds and then they flap and bang around in the breeze. Doesn't make sense to me. I think you can get them to close into the middle but that looks a bit pox. We even have a couple of half half sliders (one fixed panel and one sliding panel) here in the townhouse we rent that the blinds gather on the open window side not the fixed panel side. We are thinking of going with roller blinds so this shouldn't be an issue. That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 17961 Hi All, I just wanted to close this topic out with an update.
