Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Feb 07, 2009 2:17 pm Boy am I finding this external colour selection hard!!!
The bricks and roof we want are both dark...so the white windows I want (from the inside) probably look funny from the outside!!!... Has anyone done a dark window (ie Woodland Grey) on the front then white everywhere else? We would also have to have two tall windows on the side woodland grey (for the one room inside) but then switch to white iykwim.. Any advice helpful...this is doing my head in Re: Different colour windows? 2Feb 07, 2009 2:29 pm Why would white windows look odd with dark bricks ?
This is what we have done, though the windows aren't pure white, but off white, called white birch : Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: Different colour windows? 3Feb 07, 2009 3:38 pm Hi Southies
That looks great and exactly what I want but since adding the roof colour (gunmetal), and a portico (purple) and a courtyard wall (timber palings) there are just too many colours floating about!! might have to go back to a white portico, and timber front door to link to the courtyard fence... but i REALLY wanted purple in there! arghhh Re: Different colour windows? 4Feb 07, 2009 7:43 pm havingfun, I don't follow why you can't have purple
Your colours are neutral - dark bricks, dark roof, light windows, paling fence. You need the purple to make a statement. The timber ones across the front will match the front doors and garage doors and since our home is very long and stretches across the block horizontally they will be the main things you see when you drive down the driveway. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Different colour windows? 7Feb 08, 2009 9:59 am thanks for all the comments..I'm feeling better now!
These are my (hopefully) final two choices...(excuse the poor photoshopping...D@n I ain't!). Comments/ideas welcome! Re: Different colour windows? 8Feb 08, 2009 10:06 am I actually like your original idea the best. I think it looks fresh and the light roof will keep your house cooler in summer than the dark one.
Sorry that's not much help is it. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Different colour windows? 9Feb 08, 2009 10:39 am I like the dark bricks, as we're having, so I'm obvioulsy biassed. Actually, I like dark - period.
And I like your purple portico to add a splash of pizazz. But that's only my opinion Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: Different colour windows? 11Feb 08, 2009 8:59 pm im another big fan of dark and also want to run a lighter coloured window colour with hopefully white vertical blinds as well

Although we still love dark brick, the combination just didn't seem to go so we have changed to a light grey brick (PGH Sorbetto - actually darker than in the pics below)...I can now sleep at night
Just one more decision (on the exterior that is...then we move to the interior!!) Surfmist or Woodland Grey garage door????? My DH likes the Woodland Grey and I'm probably leaning that way too...?? I think surfmist for your garage (but I favour lighter colours). yep you need a joint, foam is easiest, will look fine once rendered with a joint. 2 5233 Hi, have purchased a house with 2 single garage doors. The Centre pillar one side sits proud to the other. Can I change 2 doors into one. Please see picture. 0 6336 There is evidence of water on the head reveals. That could have happened during the build, or may be happening currently. There are water stains above a couple of windows… 2 3830 |
