Thank you Re: double glazing 3Apr 30, 2006 5:14 pm We'll be building in the near future and will definitely have double glazed windows put in (Melbourne). I have looked at the WERS and found windows that would suit the climate, has anyone else put double glazed windows in? Are you happy? Do they make a lot of difference? Thanks. Re: double glazing 4May 03, 2006 11:40 pm Hi Mek,
double glazing is the way to go, it offers comfort, it is energy efficient, and there is no condensation in normal conditions. But your glazing is only as good as the frame. You are better of with European style tilt and turn windows with thermally broken frames. And you get superior hardware with it. Don't even bother with this flimsy tin frame joinery. There are quite a few manufacturers in Australia. You might als come across those who think they can bend the rules of physics. They come up with silly ideas like double glazing on the north side, single glazing on the south side and other nonsense. good luck! Re: double glazing 5May 04, 2006 12:09 pm Thanks windowexpert. Would you be able to give me any info as to which companies would be the best to approach in VIC please? I realise you're in NZ but you mentioned there were a few of them in AUS. Thanks. Re: double glazing 6May 04, 2006 12:50 pm Hi Mek,
As mentioned in anothersubject there are several manufactures in Australia. Some examples: www.everglaze.com.au www.titane.com.au www.signaturewindows.com.au www.envirovision.com.au Christoffel (Head Office) 3/59 Edward Street Riverstone, NSW 2765 Phone: 02 9627 4811 Fax: 02 9627 4345 Good luck!! Re: double glazing 8Jun 08, 2006 2:23 pm After lots of investigations, we decided to go for aluminium improved double glazed windows and doors. It would be nice to have European tilt and turn or uPVC, but with prices 3-4 times higher than aluminium, and the fact that we don't really have European winters we really could not justify the cost. ![]() Re: double glazing 9Jun 25, 2006 11:15 pm ![]() I am about to buy a unit that may have a bit of traffic noise outsid the bedroom. Thank you Hi Wendy Titane Windows installed for me two of these double glazed widows with argon gas in the middle and they are very good. They are not cheap but finally we can have a good rest. I am living close to a main street (i.e. South Road) and the noise is terible. Do not use sliding system because they may not be so efficient. We have paid for two windows of 1.5x 2.4m about $5,300 but the price may vary due to the installation conditions, number of openings and other features but they are great and we are thinking to bring again this company to install another three windows for us and shield all the front of the house plus energy savings. We've did a lot of research and we found Titane to be good because the PVC is stabilised with a Titane particle in order to withstand with UV radiation and the PVC profile is double as thickness and there is a metal reinforcement in the middle of the profile. Also the seals are made of rubber and silicon therefore I do not have to wipe them with silicon every several months. Also, it is very important to watch for other ventilalation holes or places where the sound may enter in your house. We've did a lot of research and apparently the low frequency (trucks) are the main culprit but fortunately this system works good If you need more help send me an e-mail. Good luck Re: double glazing 10Jun 12, 2007 7:32 pm Hi
