Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jan 10, 2009 12:25 pm We are looking at getting a security sliding door for our stacker. We have been quoted $800 per 1200mm door so $1600 for a 2 panel door that is in a product called invisi-guard which is suposedly superior to crimsafe.
Does this price seem ok? Does anyone have any opinions or experience with security screen sliders? I am not desperately concerned about security what we do want is something that wont spoil the view to the yard (so no grilles) and with 2 (soon to be 3) small children standard fly mesh just wont cut it. Thoughts? Re: Security stacker door crimsafe? Invisi-guard? 2Jan 10, 2009 12:28 pm Seems very expensive to me... if you really want this, go to Timbarra in Hallam (Vic).
If you want the kids not to break the mesh - then just get a standard flydoor with stainless mesh - guessing $200 each. Ed Re: Security stacker door crimsafe? Invisi-guard? 3Jan 11, 2009 6:19 am That sounds about right - we were quoted the same price for Crimsafe.
We'll be going for something similar as our back yard is quite exposed in terms of public access After 4 years - we're in! Re: Security stacker door crimsafe? Invisi-guard? 4Jan 11, 2009 6:39 am The security door will be a security door - but if someone wants to get in they will use a window...
THe stainless doors are too expensive the stainless grill costs about $100 per piece, they should be around $400 per panel all up. Find a cheaper supplier or use an alternative brand that doesn't pay heaps to advertise on TV. Ed Re: Security stacker door crimsafe? They have fire escape ones too for fast escape from inside if there is a fire. I was scared I would get trapped inside my house in a fire! Also I am thinking of getting some for my mum. She's old and she gets scared easily especially at home alone during the day. It really is piece of mind that you can open the windows all day and get fresh air without having to worry about potential burglers. Re: Security stacker door crimsafe? It's made by the same company that makes Invisi-Gard and very similar except it's not as see-through and is a little cheaper. Invisi-guard? 10Mar 07, 2009 5:01 pm There are many stainless mesh doors at many different prices. Stainless is very strong and hard to cut. Alu-Gard is aluminium and not even in the same class. But what is in the same class at a much lower price is a door made by Timbarra Screens in Hallam. It uses a black, galvanised steel mesh which keeps the security without the cost.

I hadn't thought of the fire issue though so that's a good point! How many windows is that? As I posted above yeah check with them regarding their fire escape options. BUT also remember those fire escape options only allow for easy EXIT. If you have infants, elderly or you need assistance escaping the house realise the firemen will still have the same issues trying to get ENTRY. Other complementary options are having security screens which open/unlock when the fire alarms go off. I know a lot of roller shutters already have this ability. They work off mains AND back-up battery in case the mains goes down during a fire before the shutters have time to open (which it will often do if it is an external sourced fire). Re: Security stacker door crimsafe? Invisi-guard? 12May 20, 2009 2:52 pm Um about 10 windows? At this point I think it's going to overcapitalise the property if we spend that sort of money on security screens, however having said that - if it looks like we might be there longer than I thought we may get them anyway so I feel safe! Re: Security stacker door crimsafe? Invisi-guard? 14Sep 15, 2010 8:28 pm Hi all, I work asa a Firefighter here in Perth, but my second job is working for a company who manufactures security screens and doors for all these companies that you speak of. A few things to point out about the "clear-view" style products. Not all security mesh is the same! 1. There are different grades of the stainless mesh that they use (marine 316, etc) 2. There are different weave cross-sections. 0.25, 0.5, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9 and some even use 1.1 (the higher the number the stronger the mesh. most common is a 0.8. 0.25 can be called pet-mesh also as it is good if you have animals that like to scratch or blast through doors... its just a upgrade from your normal fiberglass "fly-screen" mesh that you will already have.) 3. The mesh is normally cut in long 30m rolls and comes in bare silver stainless. to make it black, most companies will powdercoat the mesh... but i know of a few that paint! so make sure you ask. 4. There are different ways that companies have decided how to attach their mesh to the frames of the door. Some will screw the mesh on with a kind of backing plate. you will see the screws with this method. We have a method where we bend the mesh and it sits inside the door fame and self-tightens itself once the door is made. Just some things to ask when your buying. The average door will cost around $800-$900 depending on whether you are getting a single or triple lock, your type of handles, if you need a sub-frame and if you get a special colour for the frames. Standard colours are black, white, magnolia, doeskin, hammersly brown, anotec dark grey, white birch, clear anodized and bronze anodized. Screens will depend of size as you pay pretty much for the mesh by size and if you have a special colour. As mentioned, being a Firey... i greatly recommend the emergency exit screens. they are locked from the outside and can be opened with a key on the inside or a push bar, depending on how they are constructed. They do cost substantially more however. Maybe just install on main bedroom windows. Hope is of some help to someone. Nate Re: Security stacker door crimsafe? Excellent points Nate - explained it perfectly. When it comes to security doors and windows it is very easy to get stuck comparing apples with oranges and getting confused as to why they vary greatly in style and cost. There are lots of different combinations and options out there - thats a good thing, but it can also cause headaches. I think the best thing to do is decide just how much strength and security is needed, and then add in the wants like look and colours etc (and budget). For example, it could simply be an extra line of defense or a visual barrier in which case the good old Diamond Grille security doors are perfect as they are much cheaper. If you want the security, but also the view, then your move up to the clear view products like stainless steel mesh, perforated mesh, or galvonised mesh. It certainly is tricky balancing the wants and needs with the budget too. Dean Re: Security stacker door crimsafe? Invisi-guard? 17Feb 15, 2011 2:41 pm A few things I've found so far when deciding b/w Crimsafe 304 SS and a 316 SS mesh (eg. Invisi-gard): - Crimsafe mesh is attached to frame with little screws; they are visible on the frame - Crimsafe mesh seems to be a tiny bit more see-through than a 316 SS mesh - Price depends on the supplier, seems like it's nothing to do with the product itself. - All these mesh(es ) seem to be powder-coated, not painted - would like to know which ones are painted. So, what's the verdict? Is Crimsafe better than the other type and why? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Security stacker door crimsafe? Invisi-guard? 18Feb 16, 2011 9:05 am Had both crimsafe (in previous home) and invisi-gard this home honestly I cant tell the difference, both product are a deterrent for break ins they are not going to stop someone from breaking in if the want to, For us the price was better on the invisi-gard and the all the crimsafe rep could do was bag the other product. Cheers Lou http://take2-customdesigndownslope.blogspot.com 07-10-09 omg they have cut the block 14-05-10 we finally have the keys Re: Security stacker door crimsafe? Invisi-guard? 19Feb 16, 2011 1:54 pm Thanks Lou, that is quite useful. I had my little heart set on Crimsafe, but then found out about the visible screws. Is this right about the screws, do you remember them? Price-wise, they are almost identical for our doors. We wouldn't rely on them to provide too much security, it's more that they wouldn't need any bars, just the mesh, so they would look better on our front doors . BTW, does anyone have this mesh as a window "fly"screen in an awning window? I wonder if it could be easily lifted and removed from the outside Also, what kind of fixing knobs/buttons/thingies people have these days with the normal flyscreens? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Security stacker door crimsafe? So, what's the verdict? Is Crimsafe better than the other type and why? I have 3 hinged doors and 2 sets of stacker Crimsafe screens - I didn't even realise there were screws until I checked. They are on the inside of the door (so a criminal can't take them off from the outside) and powdercoated to match the frame - not really "visible" unless you stand right up close and stare at them. I don't have Invisiguard so I can't provide a direct comparison - but we're very happy with our Crimsafe and the after sales service from our rep has been excellent - I had issues adjusting a door closer and we had bugs crawling through the brush guard so they came and installed an extra set of stripping to the sliding door frame to stop it - all free of charge Also - I am not sure why you're worried about powder coating vs painting - doesn't powder coating give you a more durable and consistent finish? Isn't that why they use it on steel fences, balustrades etc? I have both white and timber finishes - the white finish with paint strokes would look fairly hideous take2 - our Crimsafe rep didn't bash the competitors at all - just provided brochures and samples of the other product and went away to measure the doors while we looked at them. After 4 years - we're in! Sure looks like the type of track that I fitted to my house. My supplier said that the underside has a tray which drains to the front. They cut vertical slots in it.
