Sure I'm not guessing its going to be a cost effective option but curious about the product. For instant does it provide a similar insulation to double glazing ? Does it block out the UV lights ? Cost - is it feasible considering it may be similar to double glazing and removes the need for curtains? Any knowledge or info would be good. Or even info on anyone that sells it, I've googled but theres not much out there. Building Upside down house in Wantirna VIC Current Stage: Procrastination... it's just all too hard.... UV same as glass. Energy - it can't perform any better than plain tinted glass - so it would need to be double glazed. If you need more info - I can find it. There are also venetian blinds internal to the double glazing - that could be an option. (these are the windows that go from opaque to clear using electricity or the heat from the sun) Not sure about windows.. but I have a electrochromic mirror in my territory and it dims when car lights shine on it.. works very well and I could see how it would be good on west facing windows. Ed, So its not glass as such then it's a film that is attached to glass ?. Therefore I would need doubleglazing and THEN the film over the top of that - which isn't very appealing at the cost suggested. Does it last ?. Blog: http://thereluctantbuilder.blogspot.com/ Re: Electrochromic or Thermochromic Windows 5Jan 06, 2009 1:48 pm No - it is the glass, not a film - but if you are looking for an energy benefit then it won't replace double glazing - you could probably double glaze with one piece being this glass...
I think it will last... it is switchable like LCD, is that what you want? If you want partial obscure I think it will let you. A Co I am know distributes it. Ed Re: Electrochromic or Thermochromic Windows 6Jan 08, 2009 11:43 am I actually want the "effect" for privacy more than heat as its a north facing outlook overlooking paddocks, parkland, mountains etc. However due to the vastness (likely to be 18-22m x 3m) of the glassed area I'm concerned that an entire wall of glass isn't going to be great at insulation - thus the need for double glazing.
Ed - if you could send the details through I'd most appreciate it. Its no doubt going to be out of my price range but I'd like to at least know. Thanks everyone for their feedback.
