Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Dec 11, 2008 9:33 am Hey all,
I'm pretty new to this website in terms of posting, but I regularly check in to read whats happening . . . and now I'm in desperate need of some advice . . . My partner and I have just built a home with a well known builder in Victoria (not sure if its appropriate to mention their name, but 'Love where you Live'). We have paid extra to upgrade some of our windows to timber framed windows as well as upgrading the sliding and biparting doors to timber. Our issue is this: Last Christmas these timber framed items were delivered to the site and as the builders were already on holidays, the items were left out exposed to the elements of wind, rain, sun repeatedly. When we visited the site, we took photo's of all this 'damage' as we were sure that untreated timber shouldn't be subjected to such conditions. Anyway, we have recently taken possession of our home and have advised the builder that we are very unhappy with the timber products that they have used as there are quite obvious black marks running through the timber in the areas where there have been nails put in the timber. It looks like the nails have rusted and this has spread to the surrounding wood. The builder being a tight @$$, of course doesn't want to do anything about it and is dragging out this whole process. They did send someone out who tried to sand the rust out of the wood, but this didn't work. More recently they appear to have applied what looks like a brown rubber seal over the nails and blackmarks. We're not timber experts and this is why we turn to you all for advice/assistance . . . Is this 'rubber seal' sufficient enough to stop/repair the already damaged windows? Our instincts tell us no, but we'd like to get the opinions of others . . . . Cheers.
