Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Nov 25, 2008 10:20 am We're going for timber venetians through out most of our house, but I'm not entirely sure what to do with the two sets of stained timber/glass bifold doors that lead out to our al fresco room.
One is in the dining area, which also has a window that will have a timber venetian. The other opens from a walk-through area that's open to the lounge - again we'll have timber venetians on the two narrow windows in there. I'm thinking that at some future point, I'll add eyelet or tab-top drapes to the lounge windows, over the venetians and I'm wondering whether Roman blinds in the same fabric would work for the bifolds (set high so that they pull right up, clear of the top of the doors, of course). But then, do I need to add a Roman blind or drapes or something to the dining room window too? I want the whole thing to look cohesive, not a mish-mash of different treatments. For now, we're leaving the bifolds uncovered, but I'm thinking ahead to when we have some more $$ to spare... Just in case I'm making no sense, the PD Bridgeport at Mernda is almost identical to our place.... Re: Blind suggestions for glass bifolds? 2Nov 25, 2008 10:29 am How about a roller on each panel of the bifold door, but not covering the edges, so you still get the full impact of the lovely doors even when they are covered? Not sure how this would go with the other windows though.
Bit like this, only this is with a venetian: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Blind suggestions for glass bifolds? 3Nov 25, 2008 10:38 am I looked at a similar idea with Roman blinds individually mounted, but I'm just not sure....

I think I'm visualising a patterned or coloured fabric for my lounge drapes, and while I can see the same fabric in a single large Roman blind, I just can't picture it on individual blinds on the bifolds. It might look a bit busy? But then, I don't know why I think that about the individual blinds and not about the single one... I think the plain blinds look great on bifolds, but I don't want plain. I think... Re: Blind suggestions for glass bifolds? 5Nov 25, 2008 12:44 pm Not sure - the glass is slightly recessed, but the rods on the blinds might protrude enough to get in the way of folding them flat. I'd like to see some in real life to test out the theory.
All the display homes I've seen have no window treatments at all on the bifolds. It's tempting, and in summer we'd be OK, since the doors open onto a deep al fresco room, with walls on 3 sides (it faces north-east). So the glass would be in shade virtually all of the time at that time of year. In winter though, there'd be a lot of heat lost through the glass, especially at night... Then there's privacy. The block next door is vacant, but I have no idea what will be built there, or whether they'll have an outdoor living area on that side, or upper floor windows overlooking us. I guess I'll just have to live with them for a while and consider the options. Re: Blind suggestions for glass bifolds? 6Nov 25, 2008 1:41 pm those romans are beautiful kek! but I can see how it might be annoying to have to let the blinds down before opening the doors
have you a pic of the patterned fabric you like for your other ones? Re: Blind suggestions for glass bifolds? 7Nov 25, 2008 2:58 pm Nope, haven't got as far as picking fabric yet. LOL - I suppose I should worry about moving in and getting vital stuff like driveway, carpet, etc before I think abut fancy window treatments.
