Or should I not have timber at the bottom of the window? I assume I should have wider flashing that sticks out past the timber but over the bricks? The easiest way is to use an extra jamb studs on one end (where you filled the remaining opening) next to your new window from top to bottom plate of wall and another stud/s under lintel for bearing.
