Latch too far from the frame to grab

what would one do in this situation

i was not the tradesmen who hung the door although after i have installed my lock a few weeks later the gap has separated even further,

is it a door frame issue
is it a hinge being too light duty issue
does the timber need to be bent somehow back closer to the latch

The gap between the edge of the door and the frame does look a bit large but it's also a bit hard to tell.
However from the photo's I'd almost say it's not latching because the the latch striker plate is positioned to high and the latch isn't catching the hole.

The gap between the door and frame does look larger than it should be, however the latch normally sticks out of the door edge around 15mm. Even if your gap is 5mm (which is large) it should still latch.
That's why I'm thinking that the door isn't latching into the keeper. In the photo it kinda looks like it hasn't pushed into the hole.
You can clearly see that the latch is way lower than the striker so I'd try taking the striker off first and just close the door and see if it latches and then possibly look at lowering the striker.
If that isn't it then there are options.

With troubleshooting you always cross off the easiest thing first. Not being there and only looking at photos makes it hard, but latch position is always the first thing to cross off.
If it's latching then you have a few options.
Is the margin (gap) down the lock side the same from top to bottom?
Are the margins the same on the lock side and hinge side?

That’s I think the light gauge hinges are problem a heavier duty gauge will widen the margin on the hinge side?

There are 3 hinges and they are adequate for the door. They are paint grade hinges and not decorative so are just simple.
Ideally you would use fixed pin and a better quality, however the hinge isn't the issue.
You didn't answer my question about the margins and how straight and even they are.
How big is the gap on the lock side? The door should still latch even with a fairly large gap.

The design of the door (sidelight has marginalised the gap)

I'd suggest getting a carpenter to look at it.
The entire door and lock fitting looks poorly carried out.
It can be fixed but you seem to neither understand or appreciate what I'm trying to help you with

Looking at that photo there's no way that door is latching unless there's some serious upward pressure being placed. Gap between door and jamb also looks to be widening above the lock so points to door not being hung straight.

The latch and striker are definitely not aligned but there was no point trying to help the OP understand that. Hence the reason they are no longer with us.
