So, in what way do you say our U values are not very good? And, compared to whom? Give me an example. Ed I would say a U value of 2 and below is good. I keep seeing window suppliers claiming their windows are 'the best' and then you see the U values are 2-4 times worse than actual high performing windows. Re: Now It's 0.3mm Gap For Double Glazing. It beats all the 5Nov 07, 2023 4:54 pm Clear double glazed glass alone (Ug) has a U value of 2.8. To get below 2 for the whole window has little to do with the window design and more to do with the glass, so you must start with a glass U value below 2 to have the window U value come out at 2. Any window can take any glass, so the only way to compare windows is to compare by taking clear glass and air filled to be the comparable standard. That is why our window outperforms most others and all non-broken aluminium windows as well as some thermally broken, and also why you will always get a better result with our window using the same glass as others. Vacuum glazed is a game changer it has taken a long time to come to commercial reality but it's U value (Ug) is 0.5, which is a reduction of heat conduction by 82%... Nothing comes close that you can see through. Please show me an example of an aluminium window that you consider to be a high performing window... then we can discuss it. U value 0.5 = R value 2 U value 2.8 = R value 0.36 "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. That is the window with the VGU but not installed in the house. "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. What you see is what I have at this time...I don't want to post something and then have to change it. This information is hot off the press... but yes VGUs are available from EcoEco today. The product energy ratings are being done as we speak... all I have is the Ug value at this time, but as this is 0.5 Watts/Sq.m./degree Kelvin and double glazed units are 2.8 Watts/Sq.m./degree Kelvin. It is safe to estimate the affect is substantial. I will have results in a week or so and I will publish them here. As #Alex79 says, it's like having a brick veneer wall. Most recently (and anecdotally) i was staying in an apartment in NYC that looked out onto Times Square and i could barely hear anything going on through those units. I was seriously impressed. I dont know what the ratings were, how thick the glass was or what gasses etc. may have been used, but speaking to locals, they were surprised i had anything to say as this was normal for them. In Australia, acoustic performance is most often not stated. We have acoustically (physically) tested our windows with DGUs and the results have been quite amazing:- Our standard awning window 4/12/4 clear toughened and air filled is Rw 34, and with 8.76/9/4 it becomes an outstanding Rw 39. Acoustic reports which are required for some builds seem to always be prescriptive in terms of glass, they don't specify the scale of attenuation, just a thickness of the glass. This has some problems firstly, it's the performance of the whole window that is important, not simply the glass. And secondly these prescriptive reports seem to recommend thicker glass than is needed, and they don't allow for double glazing. So that when 12mm glass is specified in many window systems there is not room for a second piece of glass. I always go back to the acoustic engineer and find out what level of attenuation is required so we can meet the energy and acoustic requirements, sometimes I am surprised by their lack of knowledge, I have a few stories. As the builder indicated, he's worked on many upmarket builds, these were the most well engineered windows he's come across in his line of work.
