Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Jan 10, 2007 6:20 pm Hi All
I'm currently in dispute with my builder regarding the installation of my window & sliding door frames. Does anyone have a copy of the AS 2047 standard i could read, just whating to check if there installation meets the standards. I have sliding doors / windows with no upper straps used (straps are rivited to the top of the frame by the manufacture) - visible sag in the middle of the frame not sitting flush with the lintel. Sliding doors / windows with insufficent brick ties, not secure in the brickwork. I'm hoping the AS 2047 standard will help me clarify there ******* workmanship. I cant beleive you have to pay to download a Aus standatd from the web what a joke. Thanks Anthony Re: Dowell Windows & Frames 2Jan 10, 2007 6:52 pm Hi Anthony,
I know how frustrating having to buy copies of the standards can be - I recently spent a couple of hundred dollars just for some kitchen standards that didn't even end up giving me the information I needed. What's more, I am not allowed to print more than one copy of the said standards or store them in part or full on any form of network, including my own LAN. This isn't exactly the answer you are after, but I do know that the National Library has copies of all Australian Standards, and I am pretty sure that State libraries do also. If you can get to a State Library you can browse and copy the standards you need in house. Or if you are lucky your council library might have or be able to order the information you require - I know the Brisbane City Council Library does. A lot of libraries have their catalogues on line, so it is pretty easy to find out. Good luck, Earl Re: Dowell Windows & Frames 3Jan 10, 2007 6:58 pm Thanks Strumer
Never thought of going to the library. Back to School i guess. Will give the library a try. I might call the manufacture and see if the have any documentation regarding the installation of their products. Thanks Anthony Re: Dowell Windows & Frames 4Apr 18, 2007 6:45 am Hi
Well this is old - but here's my two pennyworth... You don't fasten the head of a window as the brickwork (or whatever construction) may settle later. If the head has dropped then the sill must have dropped. If the house is on a slab then the window is likely not supported in the middle (this goes mainly for wide windows - like 2m) causing the whole window to drop in the centre. It's a building problem but attributed to the manufacturers building in detail. If this is yoiur problem then the window needs support - either a bracket or packers under the sill. Secondly - my solicitor told me I can quote and copy any Australian Standard. That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 17858 If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 8306 |
