Laundry door placement v split level stairs

I have just noticed that the internal door into the laundry of our new house will be on the dining room wall. Not only will this look ugly in what is the main living/dining area but it will serenely impact furniture placement in the dining room (I really wanted a casual bunkete L shape bench with a round table).
