If you want to actually keep the heat out - then external blind / shade of some type is the only option. Curtains inside - like the pics above are also needed to keep the balance. I'm thinking an external shutter that sits beside the windows in winter, and is put over the window in summer might work. Make it like a winter summer type of look to your house. Some idea of products is here. http://www.sunlite.com.au/ss_sunscreens.html I have the same issue with lots of direct western facing glass - but in winter I like to leave it open to view the ocean and let the extra heat in. Steve Re: Which window dressing for this window? 23Oct 23, 2008 10:07 pm Thanks for that Jo so they do work on two separate controls looks like ... so you can just have one or the other. But I'd have to get 3 separate sets of the blinds, for the three windows... but could work!
Thanks for that link Steve, it has some great stuff. How are you getting your shades to sit 'beside' the window though? There is not a lot of space there? Also it might be hard to achieve with the three windows on different angles on mine? Re: Which window dressing for this window? 24Oct 23, 2008 11:28 pm I think the side windows are fine with no covering, (ie curtains inside) and if the main window is due west, then perhaps a clip on system and some lourves that tilt to meet the needs of blocking the summer western sun angles, slip pins or similar.
As for mine, I have a balcony in front of the windows, so I'm designing an architectural slide system that is a feature in winter and functional in summer -The western suns still doing a good job warming it at present - but it will be ready for jan/feb timeframe - Steve Anthony Firstly, wow you have put a lot of work into your list of questions! Great job and they are mostly valid questions that a builder should be able to answer. As… 14 10691 Black on light wood does look good.
