Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Sep 23, 2021 10:23 am Hi, Ive got a couple double glazed units i need to replace inside existing frames. I've found an online supplier that can make them to size quite cheap. I'm looking to understand if popping out the old ones and replacing with new/resealing is as easy as i think. The difference in price to doing this myself and getting a glazier to do it is significant. From what i can tell the process is to peel back the silicone, jimmy what looks like a snap on angle from the frame on all four sides and then lifting the unit out. Replace unit, snap on the angles and re-silicone. Am i oversimplifying this, is this a legitimate home maintenance job i can do myself? Do i need any specialist tools to reduce the likelihood of damaging the frames etc.? Where do i measure from for sizing, do i add buffer etc. Not after a discourse on the pros/cons of buying DG units online, as this house is becoming a rental. Just need to replace some units before whacking it on the market. Dark matter scientist, can breathe underwater, mind reader and can freeze matter just by willing it. Trust me, its in my sig. Rather like winning at Wimbledon, just throw the woolly ball in the air and hit it very fast across the net, within the tennis court, if it comes back bash it again. Done, collect the trophy. The critical issues are whether your current windows will take the thiskness of a double glazed unit, and whether your old window and its hardware will support the weight.
