Because I know we all like photos HI guys, we are considering for our Alfresco area having a half height wall and outdoor window shutters (Like in the picture ) as we are planning an indoor alfresco. The side we are having the shutters is North facing so thats where all our light would come in. The other scenario would be a full height wall with 2 side windows as the BBQ would be in the middle and the rangehood would also sit in there. If we had the shutters we would not require the ranghood as we could simply open them up to the outside. We are hoping to create the feeling of another room rather than an added area. We are also having bifolds to close in the area in winter. The other we have considered is the cost which is the comparison of wall, render 2x windows and a rangehood.......................or PVC or Aluminium shutters. approx 3mx1.5m With all this in mind I was hoping that someone has these or knows of someone with them that can let me know about upkeep and their durability? What are peoples opinions of this idea? Re: Outdoor window shutters 2Oct 14, 2008 1:27 pm they're gorgeous I love them!
If you don't have a rangehood though, might they get very dirty from all the bbq smoke going through them? JUst something to consider maybe? I wonder how they'd work on my west-facing facade windows... have you got the name of the company who makes them PK? Re: Outdoor window shutters 3Oct 14, 2008 1:35 pm http://www.allstarblinds.com.au/
This was the website I got the image from but I believe that they are made the same wherever you get them from. You are right though and made me think...... the whole point of an indoor Alfresco is so we can still use it in winter and if the weathers bad we are going to need the shutters to be closed therfore we will still need a rangehood. So not saving on the rangehood but saving on the brickwork and the render. Still have to find out costs though. Re: Outdoor window shutters 5Oct 14, 2008 4:36 pm As a guide I just got an email quote back based on 1.5m x 3m and its around $2500 including installation. Now we just have to work out how much the brickwork, render and painting would be for the same size. Re: Outdoor window shutters 6Oct 14, 2008 4:52 pm How much was it to get an outdoor rangehood done? DH & I are thinking of putting our BBQ well under our alfresco but don't want grease marks. After 4 years - we're in! Re: Outdoor window shutters 7Oct 14, 2008 4:59 pm Stonecutter the outdoor rangehoods are commercial grade due to there being alot more smoke from a BBQ as opposed to cooktops. But it all depends on where they are placed(close or far from open areas). Your fitter will not install either unless it has been certified to be used in an outdoor environment(unless you know someone ). So anyway the commercial grade rangehoods are anywhere from $1200 up........ its more to do with the suction per cubic meter. I am just not sure what the minimum suction is yet. Re: Outdoor window shutters 9Oct 15, 2008 12:00 pm Paula I think they do look gerogeous too.
I am thinking about the dust and dirt factor and my thoughts were that we would be having the white timber blinds or shutters around the rest of the house but we will be having the cedar lined ceiling in the alsfresco..........so do I go with the white cos really thats the colour I want and it goes with the rest of the house or do I go for the timber because it won't show the dust or dirt as bad and will probably tie in well with the cedar on the ceiling........ It is at the back of the house of course so really no one else will see the 2 different colours at one time anyway....... Re: Outdoor window shutters 10Oct 15, 2008 12:52 pm The colour is a hard choice....
The white will also give you an airy feel... I have always gone practical my whole life, and now I'm just starting to go for what looks great, as its always what I want! I'd say go white!! (sorry in advance when you are out there cleaning them ) Paula Re: Outdoor window shutters 11Oct 15, 2008 1:07 pm Hey thats a good Motto, and don't be sorry I will remind DH that the outside is his cleaning area and it will all work out fine. I will remid him once they are installed by the way and not before.
