Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Oct 12, 2008 12:50 pm Ive searched this forum and havent been able to come up with anything so thought I would pop in a new post! Our home has been completed and we put in the wiring for a door bell, problem is, I have been looking everywhere and can't find a decent door ball that looks nice!! the actual button that you push is easy, you can find one of those almost anywhere, but the actual chimes are terrible!!! can anyone recommend where we can look for one of these? Re: Hard Wired Doorbell 2Oct 12, 2008 3:34 pm Ah, I have exactly the same problem - there doesn't seem to be too many around these days - I have memories of the great Friedland door bell displays in the stores from when I was a kid. Everything these days seems to be those tinny battery operated remote things. In our current house, we have a Valet intercom system with a doorbell as part of it - looks like we'll be opting for a downsized version of this in the new house too. I think you can just get the doorbell from them - I'll be making enquiries this week about that... Re: Hard Wired Doorbell 4May 16, 2009 7:38 pm Just wondering whether anyone knows of some where to buy wired door bells around Melbourne?? I went to Bunnings today and they have a limited range one was nice but had no light in it so at night it is illuminated. Thanks Re: Hard Wired Doorbell 5May 17, 2009 12:27 pm I guess if you had a sensor light in your front porch area you would not need the doorbell to be illuminated. 2011 Home Sweet Home Handover 03 September 2010 PCI 27August 2010 Plumber 20August 2010 Electrician 19August 2010 Painting 04 August 2010 Cabinets 13Jul2010 Lockup 23June Frame 20April slab 1Mar10 Re: Hard Wired Doorbell 6May 17, 2009 12:36 pm Anna1 I guess if you had a sensor light in your front porch area you would not need the doorbell to be illuminated. add to that a camera that is activated and come sup on your video phone / TV and you would be set .... who needsa door bell.... In this house I never hear when people are at the door, so at the new house a doorbell would be great. I'll have to have a look around. I'm interested to see what other people have Re: Hard Wired Doorbell 8May 17, 2009 9:05 pm Thanks Anna1 as I will be having a sensor light in the portico, no need for the button to be illunimated Forgot about it all together Re: Hard Wired Doorbell 9May 20, 2009 2:29 pm If you want to go a bit further, our electrician who installed the wired door bell+camera system, added a small " image storage" device which captures and stores the photo of the past 64 images... So if you weren't at home and someone pressed the door bell, you can see their photo through this device. Re: Hard Wired Doorbell 10May 20, 2009 9:41 pm In my last house I just installed one that plugged into a power point. It was great when I was outside or in the pool as I just plugged it in outside and could hear when someone was at the door. It may be worth considering. Have you tried lighting shops they usually have a range of wired in ones. Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: Hard Wired Doorbell 11May 20, 2009 9:49 pm wow interesting. I totally forgot about the door bell. I totally forgot about the door bell. Do all door bells have to be prewired? No you can get wireless ones but we have always had problems with them so I am thinking about a hardwired one for the new place too. It just means that it's hard wired into the house electrics (like a light switch). Or the wires can come through to an internal powerpoint.
