Hi all, yes another Double glazed window question - apologies. Actually it's more of a "talk it through" than a question. Would love to hear your thoughts.
We have existing aluminium framed single glass doors/windows facing south, which is the front of our 30yo house. Since we moved in three years ago, the south half of the house is difficult (but not impossible) to heat in comparison to the back. There is a new Brivis heater on the way to help deal with this imbalance.
Also, there are some changes underway to the house aesthetically, and the current MISSION BROWN frames really need to change color to achieve an all over effect for the better.
The thought process went like this:
(1) paint the exterior frames. Although we're not afraid of hard work around the home, this idea was quickly put into the "too hard" or "too time consuming" basket for us.
(2) Then it was get a painter in to do it and (assuming we can get someone for such a fiddly job) estimated the costs of this. Hmmmm.
(3) Then one step further - how much *more* would we have to spend to replace the doors/windows with double glazing. Even though this cost would be way above the painter cost, this may solve the color problem, may solve the heat problem at the same time, and as a bonus may save on heating costs for our time ihn the house which is planned to be indefinite.
As you can see, there are a few variables here and a few unknows and we're currently making no moves forward 'cause we're stuck!
First question that is in my face is custom colors on uPVC frames. I look around and I only see white/black. No Dulux range anywhere?
Another unknown was (like everybody wants to know I imagine) would we see a noticeable difference in heating cost for the double glaze, or would we be pushing to use this reason to justify the install?
Anyway, can anybody throw in any more thoughts on this?
Ta.
