Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Oct 04, 2008 9:52 pm I love the look of roman blinds and plan on having them for the majority of the house, however, I'm not sure what to do for the windows facing the street where we also need privacy.
A blind company suggested having a sheer curtain fixed to the window with a roman over the top. Has anyone ever seen/done this before and if so how did it look? Thanks for any advice Re: Sheers under roman blinds? 2Oct 04, 2008 10:17 pm I wonder if they mean the sheers are attached like the old fashioned window furnishings? My Mum and Dad have a Victorian home that has french doors with arched tops. Her lace curtains are inset into the frame with the material gathered onto a plastic covered metal "rope" - it is then attached to the timber and bent along the shape of the frame. Then the bottoms are treated exactly the same but straight along the edge.
This way the curtain is inset and flat to the window - bad part is no movement or the nice "fluttery-ness" as I call it. You would also have to choose whether to gather the sheers or leave them dead flat. I think the blind people meant the top of the sheer would be fixed to the window (fitted inside) but the bottom would hang free.
Matt - your blinds look great - will also look into this idea. Re: Sheers under roman blinds? 6Oct 05, 2008 9:51 pm Hi Helyn,
I sure can! Looking out is like looking into a bit of fog. Clear but dulled down a bit I see out but no one sees in! Re: Sheers under roman blinds? 7Oct 06, 2008 1:04 pm We are about to do this same thing with our house. E-screens recessed into the window frame (can see out but not in) and Roman blinds over the top, with 100% blockout on the back.
Is doing this expensive? Of course it depends on how many windows, size of windows, fabric chosen for Romans, block out chosen...but generally I mean, as far as window furnishings go, is this a pricey way to do it? I hope not, we did the horizontal timber venetians on our last house and it cost just under $10,000, 8 years ago, but they let so much heat in and were a pain to dust. Re: Sheers under roman blinds? 8Oct 06, 2008 1:38 pm My neighbours have see some sort of sheer romans along with their normal romans. At least that's what I think they are. As they look like matt's from the outside but they have like those white bars across that give them that roman-esque look. [sneakersss] E-screen Blinds vs Sheer Curtains 9Oct 09, 2008 8:28 pm Hi there, this is my first time on this forum (well any forum actually!) and I was really interested in the blind vs sheer curtain thing. I had sheer curtains but changed them for e-screens as they are much sleeker, sturdier, maintenance-free (hooray!) and it's awesome being able to see out when no-one can see in. I have blockouts over some of them too - all fits neatly on the one double bracket, and in the master bedroom I have curtains over the e-screens as the screens are fitted inside the window frame. The blind company was great, really helpful and CHEAP but great quality. Anyway, I just thought I'd tell you as I think the e-screens are the way to go.... Thanks for any advice Hi there, I have sheer underneath my roman blinds, it looks fine. Personally I hate roman blinds and mine give me hell everyday when it comes to opening them and closing them. but it could be because they are cheap crap. they came with the house.
