My parents are extending their lounge room (extra 10m x 5m) but council are demanding large windows that look into the neighbors yard on the northeast wall. Currently on the plans the northeast wall has 3 high positioned windows at 2 m(w)x 30cm(h) for privacy, on the southwest & southeast walls are 3.7m (w) x 1.4m (h) windows.
Council are saying that a 3.7x1.4m window needs to go on the northeast wall instead of the 3 small windows, which my parents do not want as it will look straight into the neighbours entertaining area. They are happy to install skylights if its for natural sunlight issues.
Council are saying its in the regulations that the window needs to be large. What avenues can they take to avoid council turning their house into a goldfish bowl that the neighbours will be able to look straight into.
