Starting to built my house in SA with Hickinbotham (house and land package). Have a window question to all who can help.
This company uses Boral or Southern Star windows. I have visited both suppliers today. Asked them all one question. How can I change the glass in my window from single glass to double-glazing after handover. Both suppliers said: no problem it's easy just ask any glazier who does double-glazing. They gave me brochures and sent me on my way.
So I went to the glazier who was recommended by one of the suppliers. The guy from the glaziers looked at my brochures and said that it's impossible to change the glass into double-glazing with these frames, because he cannot take the frame apart, especially where there is no opening part (awning window). It means that the cavity where the glass is in the frame, it's too narrow to hold double-glazing of 18 mm. As long as I understand the glazier is right, there is no space for double-glazing to be put in the frame. He told me to ask my builder and upgrade my glass to 6 mil laminated glass, that would be better than nothing, and when installed to apply some form of film on it.
Also the glazier told me that the price for double-glazed block of 18mil is around the 300 dollars, that sent me into a knockdown. Even my builder quotes less. Is it so expensive?
So my question is: who is right, the supplier or the glazier. I'm lost here.
But my question is who is right.
