Translucent Film

Hi All,

One option I am considering for a few windows in a new build (Front Door Glass, Sidelight Glass, Bathroom and Ensuite Windows) is translucent glass for privacy - however it is looking like the builder is going to charge at least $200 for each bit of glass that is supplied translucent, regardless of size.

Watching a building show the other night about frosted glass film - http://www.frostandco.com.au/ seem to have this product. It seems as though it is about $200 for all 4 windows, so about 1/4 of the cost of getting 'translucent' glass.

Does any one have any experience or recommendations, and is it even worth it?

Our builder suggested it to us for a few of the top storey windows that need it for the permits, but we don't want it there permanently. He suggested Bunnings, and said it would cost up around $50 to do.

I've used this before (got it from bunnings) and it was great but you need to apply it well or it will lift from the edges/corners. Clean the windows (and frame) really well and start with an oversize sheet but cut off the excess with a craft knife for a neater finish. Trying to line up a sheet and not get air bubbles etc is a big ask.

After I'd painstakingly done a 14 pane french door a mate said you can get it spray paint form. Not sure if its any better or worse but if you have lots of little panels I'd say this is the way to go.
