Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Mar 17, 2019 1:10 pm Hi all. I'm digging/jack hammering out bedrock in a workroom I'm expanding under my house. The previous owner had leveled and concreted about half of the open area, however the rest was sloping bedrock -a type of sandstone, at a guess, rising up from the edge of the concrete to about 30cm high, over a metre and a half or so's distance. I've slowly been getting bedrock down to the level of the concrete, and just wanted some advice. Should I dig down two inches or so, past the height of the existing concrete floor I want to keep, and then concrete it in, or should I try to level the stone, and then seal it with something? I'm a bit over jackhammering, to be honest, and loading up the ute with rock. I realise I probably won't be able to get the sandstone rock as smooth as I could by concreting. However, it will be a workroom, so I don't really mind if its a bit uneven. If I do decide to keep digging, and then concrete, how thick should the concrete be, given it will be poured directly onto very thick bedrock. It is under the house, so there will be no vehicles, heavy machinery, etc, only a bit of foot traffic. Alternatively, if I try to get the stone smooth, to use as the floor itself, any advise as to getting it smooth? I know there are concrete grinding machines and polishers, is there something like that for stone? I can get it reasonably level with the jack hammer, then tidy it up with a smaller air chisel - can I then use one of those machines to finish smoothing it? And finally, if I go the stone, would you use an epoxy resin or some other coating to keep it intact and minimise dust? Thanks for any help you can provide. Hi guys, I want to do some floor levelling before laying the planks and am considering doing it with self-levelling or yellow tongue PB board.
