Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 May 01, 2018 10:17 am First thing hubby had to have was a shed so this was his main priority once we moved in our home. We went through Ranbuild and they organised EVERYTHING!! We had to get the space for the shed excavated out and leveled. A few weeks after the excavation, we had the concrete poured (this was an exciting time!) and then it took a few weeks for the shed. Everything went through the council and we had to pay for relaxation for the location of the shed and how close it was to the neighbouring fences. As you can imagine, once the word 'council' comes into the equation you probably think bad things but it was all good! It was really just a lot of waiting and a bit of paperwork and liaising with some tradie/contractors but they were all really nice guys. It took 2 guys a whole day and a bit to complete the shed. Measurements are 7m x 6.5. We were surprised at how 'grand' it looked once completed! Of course, hubby wasted no time in getting all his gear sorted and set up. He was happy to have his own man space . We still have space around the back for an outdoor setting etc. Plenty of room to move! Colours of the shed are basically grey and black but they have technical names but I can't quite remember them. We also concreted the space in front of the shed as this was just dirt and when it rains it makes a mess! I'm sure I'm forgetting some info but this was done a year ago and we have done SO much to the house in that time. We also believe that based on the area we are in and the other houses similar to ours, we have added tremendous value just by adding the shed. We will look at getting an appraisal soon once we complete a few other things INSIDE the house. We focused on getting outside sorted first as we know we have more work to do inside than out and we thought it would be much easier this way. As for the Electrical work for lights and so on: My husband went out and bought the lights himself (from Rexel, I think) and the switches and had a friend who's an electrician install for us. We had to run power through the roof of the house and into the shed which was a mission! I think there is a total of 8 or 9 lights which provides ample lighting. Other Concreting: As mentioned above, we concreted in the space in front of the shed. We also concreted around the back of the house to connect to the existing concrete from the property, now it's easier to walk around the house and we have a better spot to store our garbage bins.
