For those looking after their own driveway what did you end up going with - plain concrete, aggregate, stencilling etc.?
Any tips or things to avoid like the plague?

Any tips or things to avoid like the plague? Depending on where you live, you may want to consider different things but don't just go on price. Go for a drive in a new estate and see (and talk if you can) to the new residence. There should be a sign next to their driveway. We were considering a coloured concrete driveway (cove finish) but after talking to a few people including those who do it, you have to seal it regularly to maintain its looks. If your driveway is relatively short and flat it may still be and option. We decided to go for aggregate. Ideally we should apply a light seal every 3 years. It is quite big but flat. Stencilling requires sealing as well.Get a few quotes and make sure all the work is included. There are some operators that 'forget' some things so they can charge you a premium when they are half way through and you have to pay for it. House will be semi-rural so the driveway will be quite long which is why we’re considering different options. Regardless of which option we go with it will be more expensive due to the length. I wouldn’t think that basic concrete needs ongoing maintenance or sealing, but maybe it would? Re: Driveways 4Jan 19, 2018 9:36 am JenBarber Thanks Corallake, that’s very helpful. And a lot of rural/semi-rural tend to have stone of some kind. Just need to consider the up front benefits and costs versus long term maintenance and benefits. Next time we’re out at the house I’ll do some sticky beaking in what others have done in the area and how they’re faring, I think!
