Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Sep 17, 2017 2:34 am Hi, I have a lot of weeds growing between my outdoor clay pavers. The pavers have grooves and pits on their face which makes it impossible to sweep paveloc into the joints as it gets into the grooves and stays there. The only idea I have is to spray a temporary sealant over the pavers and then sweep the paveloc into the joints, that way it will sweep right off the face of the pavers in readiness for watering in the paveloc. Sealant is expensive as I have around 180 sqm of pavers. Any suggestions as to a cheaper alternative to spray over the pavers temporarily? Thanks in advance. As you can see in the photos, the pavers aren't smooth and so the very fine concrete or polymer in the pavemate gets into the pits and grooves and can't be swept out. Then when you put the hose on the joints to make the pavemate set, it also sets in the pits and grooves. Do you think outdoor paver grout might be more coarse? Cheers Re: Weeds Between Outdoor Pavers 4Oct 10, 2017 11:15 pm The very fine component of products such as pavemate or pave'n'lock is actually cement. You'll find it's the fine cement dust in the pavemate that's causing the problem. You would be better of using paveset or pavelock as these products are silica sand with a gelling agent and contain no cement. Pavelock can be found at home hardware while paveset can be found at freostone or urbanstone central stores. Re: Weeds Between Outdoor Pavers 5Oct 10, 2017 11:23 pm Thanks for the prompt reply, very much appreciated. You know, I had assumed all the products were alike. I'll certainly consider trying paveset, although I'm thinking more and more about using something harder such as grout. Do you think grout would cause similar problems as the pavemate or is it more coarse? Also, does grout set harder than paveset? VG Re: Weeds Between Outdoor Pavers 6Oct 11, 2017 10:03 pm What sort of grout are you talking? If you're talking about tiling grout all you'll do is make a horrible mess. There's sika pave fix plus but that's for gaps of 5 to 25mm so won't be suitable as standard paving gaps generally don't exceed 3mm. Paveset is your best option . Trust me. Appreciate that Chippy. I wonβt do sand under pavers and will connect all up under pavers, however I was going to do: 1) Roadbase compacted with manual hand tamper 2)… 10 18564 |
