Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Jul 18, 2017 10:11 pm Hi guys, I'm looking for a cheaper option to re-fresh my small driveway rather than pave it. At the moment, it has red concrete squares which can be easily smashed up and removed. Underneath I'm assuming is just sand / soil...I am looking at putting something like 20mm white gravel stone, similar to the stone as seen in the link: Crushed Western White Decorative Gravel 20mm My question is, can i just pour on this stone onto the sand / soil, and rake it an even finish, or must the sand be first re-compacted etc? Cheers White Stone / Gravel for Driveway 2Jul 19, 2017 9:15 am When you say "red concrete squares", do you mean concrete pavers? If they are, and the current driveway isn't horrible buckled, then I expect the sub grade underneath should be sound because they have continued to be compacted over the years by the pavers and cars driving over them. Of course, you'll want to smooth out any disturbance created by removing the pavers. The only issue you may want to address is whether the lip on the sides of the driveway are sufficient to stop the gravel spilling out onto whatever is on either side of the driveway. Thankyou for your advice. We do have Caesar coming out and hopefully resolve the issue for us. 4 18749 Probably efflorescence Salts coming out of sand, cement products and mortar Water brings them to surface and when evaporates it stays Extremely difficult to get rid of 1 11561 |
