Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Oct 16, 2016 9:59 am We are in Sydney and are looking to get quotes for our driveway 63 x 3, 120mm thick are the total specs for the job. The requirements for the job are split into two stages.First is behind the house 9 x 3, 120mm thick. Stage 2, 54 x 3, 120mm thick down the driveway. The land is flat. Also We are getting conflicting stories in regards to, if we decide to mix the colour into the mix before the pour, some say that is not ideal because over time the colour fades and there is little you can do about that. The other option is to add the colour to the driveway after the pour and it has to be treated every two years. Wondering if anyone has had any experience with those two options and the pro's and con's of either? Re: Quotes + Pro's and Con's 2Nov 02, 2016 9:28 pm Eek. Please do not get plain grey concrete and colour seal. Its the cowboy (cheap builders) way of doing it. The driveway will look tired in about 4 years. Or sometimes hideous in 2 if the sealing wasnt done properly. You often see black sealer thats peeling with areas of white/grey concrete showing through.. yuck. I would avoid any concreter trying to sell this as he doesnt have your best interests in mind just saving some $$$. I just extended a driveway today that was built this way and it was full of cracks and all sorts of problems so im sure it wasnt just the colour he was saving on. (it was not 100mm thick for a start) If you want the colour bolder ask for 2 bags of colour per cubic metre instead of one. It doesnt fade over time its just not as bold as painted on colour. Its slightly more subtle and looks better in my opinion. Once you have your coloured concrete you can have that clear sealed if you want the colour to pop. When this clear sealer wears away gradually the colour will appear to fade but it can be brought back with another coat of clear seal.
