Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Aug 29, 2016 1:50 pm Hi, I have read a few threads on Homeone about polished concrete. I have read mostly that you're looking at minimum $100/m2 for a good job. One of the quotes I have got is significantly cheaper than the rest, which of course has be wondering if it's too good to be true. My criteria was the following: -105m2 area -Glossy finish, but just grey concrete colour, no exposed aggregate (to reduce cost+prefer that look anyway) -Provided this photo as an example from the business' own website I received the following back: For 105 m2 of polished concrete price would be: Fine grind (NOT aggregate) $ 3,800.00 - $ 4,200.00 + GST Medium grind β medium exposed aggregate $ 4,600.00 - $ 5,500.00 + GST Fully exposed aggregate $ 6,300.00 - $ 7,000.00 + GST I am not on top of all the terminology, so this is where you can possibly help me out. He said the first option (find grind) will be like pictured. Is that correct? I have this in writing. Although I've read that find grind isn't the same as polished concrete. The absolute maximum is still only $44/m2, which is obviously significantly lower than the $100-200/m2. Any red flags here? On a budget, and this is cheaper than tiles, and our preferred finish is polished concrete. You aren't going to get that with a budget House builders slab What is your soil classification, Concrete specifications, reinforcement details, etc ,etc Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Thoughts on polished concrete quote 3Aug 30, 2016 9:32 am StructuralBIMGuy That's a 150-200mm Slab with control joints in a shopping Mall? You aren't going to get that with a budget House builders slab What is your soil classification, Concrete specifications, reinforcement details, etc ,etc I am more referring to the glossy finish to the concrete, not the fact they're joint concrete slabs. My house currently being built has a H class slab, although not sure if that's the info you need. I am not in construction so not sure of all the lingo etc. Re: Thoughts on polished concrete quote 4Sep 02, 2016 4:39 pm steady_eddy91 StructuralBIMGuy That's a 150-200mm Slab with control joints in a shopping Mall? You aren't going to get that with a budget House builders slab What is your soil classification, Concrete specifications, reinforcement details, etc ,etc I found this about the bathmate I am more referring to the glossy finish to the concrete, not the fact they're joint concrete slabs. My house currently being built has a H class slab, although not sure if that's the info you need. I am not in construction so not sure of all the lingo etc. I paid $120/m2 but I knew the guy was good. I think around $100/m2 is pretty good as long as he knows what he's doing. Re: Thoughts on polished concrete quote 5Sep 03, 2016 9:45 am Commercial concrete polishing costs more because 1. to minimise shrinkage cracks the concrete slab requires more reinforcement, low water content, more working, curing, etc,etc 2. to control positioning of cracks control joints are placed..again more costs 3..On H class sites cracking and differential slab movement becomes an even bigger issue because of the thin slab 4. That image is a thicker suspended slab If done poorly polished concrete looks Cr@p..tho it looks great if done properly in controlled conditions ie indoors, precast yards BTW. rejection rates are very high and factored into the pricing When the slab starts to crack everyone from the Grano worker, polisher, builder, earthworks contractor plays pass the (blame) parcel..if you know what i mean...and the home owner will be stuck with the on going repairs. Proof ask for the engineering drawings and have them checked HTH Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Thoughts on polished concrete quote 6Sep 05, 2016 1:34 pm I'm going to follow this thread I would like to do something like that in my home but am a noob and don't even know what to expect.. What to look out for etc Re: Thoughts on polished concrete quote 7Sep 08, 2016 10:11 pm We had our standard pad pour polished. We didn't uo the MPA but knew it was a risk and it came up lovely. We had pretty much a grind to polish of near full exposure. Was from memory about $100m2.
