Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Feb 18, 2016 10:32 pm Hi All I have 2 fine but rather long cracks through the pad. They are maybe 1 - 2 mm wide at their worst but are about 5 - 7m long and straight through the middle of the living room floor. I am investigating the option of fixing them. It is just a standard pad and we only have the intention of cleaning, then sealing it and leaving it as is. We are going to use livos oil [https://www.livos.com.au/] to seal it. I am looking for something that will fill the crack and still allow the oil to penetrate it so it is inconspicuous. Does anyone have any suggestions? cheers Re: Advice to repair cracks in my Pad before applying livos 2Feb 19, 2016 10:10 am Hi abbey box First you will need to determine what sort of crack is it? ie shrinkage crack, bending, tensile, differential soil settlement. etc How old is your slab and the position it is to the edge. Some cracking continues to get worse and is always noticeable Did you tell the contractor to take care with the rebar placement? The builder & concreter should have taken extra care knowing that crack control was required? abbeybox The cracks weren't there until they put 2 big lintels on the frame. Once the slab is loaded, is when you first start noticing the cracks A well designed/engineered slab shouldn't crack like that and it sound like there could be other issues..you will need to investigate abbeybox I am just looking for a product that will fill the cracks but also not repel the oil (I think . At this point it may be wise to wait until the slab, walls and roof is completely loaded and the foundations have settle then determined why and who is responsible and the extent of the repairs..hopefully it will only be cosmetic Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Advice to repair cracks in my Pad before applying livos 5Feb 20, 2016 12:47 am Considering all I told the builder was that I wanted to oil the floor as a covering in lieu of tiles, lino, floor boards etc as it was the most cost effective option I am not going to hold him to ransom over a couple of cracks. All I would like to know is if anyone knows a product I can use that will fill the cracks in the slab and allow the oil to soak in and not stand out like dogs whatsies. The house is at lockup BTW so I guess the cracking isn't going to get much worse. They have a sister company called Anro Floors that Grind & seal floors with Livos products, http://www.anrofloorcare.com.au/ they may be happy to tell you what products they use to fill cracks on their own jobs, I have found them extremely helpful with advice whenever I have had questions. Every slab has some cracks, so your problem is a common one. The cracks, even if filled will not look the same as the rest of the floor area. Where we have had cracks in build jobs with polished concrete, our contractors have used tenax (from granite benchtop companies) & /or epoxy with colour or concrete dust. These areas will need re grinding & sealing when patched – however I am not sure how the livos will go over these products. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck?
