Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Jul 05, 2015 10:12 pm Hi all, I'm wondering if it's normal for builders not to include mesh when pouring the hardstand for the garage? I'm not 100% sure, but I think mine doesn't include the mesh by default. Should I insist on it or will it be OK without? Re: Garage hardstand and alfresco 2Jul 05, 2015 11:16 pm Most the ones I've seen don't have reo. StructuralBMGuy may be able to shed some more light on it tho. Re: Garage hardstand and alfresco 3Jul 06, 2015 12:15 am Trixee, great question and one that I asked my builder. They said that it is not normal to have mesh in the hard stand as standard. I paid to have the garages and alfresco reinforced. I thought it was a little silly to have mesh in the driveway and nothing in the actual slabs. I asked my relatives and they all thought it would be good to have it reinforced. From memory it was not much to have it put in. I think 550 for both garages which is around 100m2. Hope that helps. Re: Garage hardstand and alfresco 4Jul 06, 2015 12:42 am Thanks Mark, that helps. Though I don't really understand why they don't, when potentially you have 2 big heavy 4wds in there. Re: Garage hardstand and alfresco 5Jul 06, 2015 12:53 am Yep I was confused as well and asked for the same reason. Give them a ring and see how much it would be for it. I am not sure whether the alfresco need reinforcing as it is only foot traffic really that would go on it and it is not supporting the roof etc. Post how you get on...... Re: Garage hardstand and alfresco 6Jul 06, 2015 1:22 am But, the alfresco is under the main roof though? Re: Garage hardstand and alfresco 7Jul 06, 2015 10:43 pm Hi Trixee. Although the alfresco is under the main roof, for mine they just put footings for the side walls and the piers, so presently the rest is sand. Has your alfresco been poured yet, if it hasnt then I would imagine that it is not structural. That was how it was explained to me. Many places leave the alfresco to be paved or decked. I wanted a tiled finish so I opted for concrete. Is your Alfresco currently sand or part of the main pad. Re: Garage hardstand and alfresco 8Jul 06, 2015 10:52 pm Hi Mark, It's currently sand, they've only poured footings for the piers like yours. We're going to tile it too so are getting them to pour a hardstand. Re: Garage hardstand and alfresco 9Jul 06, 2015 11:29 pm Hmmm so same as mine. I am down in Perth later this week so I will ask by supervisor whether it needs reo. I thought foot traffic did not need it, but will see. I will let you know what I hear and we can compare notes. Re: Garage hardstand and alfresco 11Jul 10, 2015 4:27 pm Hi Trixee, So I checked plans and with the Sup and my alfresco is reinforced granno. He mentioned that he thought it would be. I don't think it costs much to put in. Cheers Mark Re: Garage hardstand and alfresco 12Sep 10, 2015 2:00 pm Looking at doing the garage hardstand atm. It seems like the norm that builder doesn't include mesh for the garage grano. Since we are doing the hardstand ourselves due to an issue with builder early on at the contract stage, we are now encouraged to put the mesh in. I got quotes for 1) 20mpa concrete with 14mm stone from boral concrete, f53 mesh, 100mm thickness; 2) 20mpa, f62 mesh, 80mm thickness. Which one is better? Timeline: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=76782 Hello!
