Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 May 09, 2015 8:34 am Hi I'm doing a little feature area outdoor, that being a step down from a deck into a tiled area. Have decided to use 400x800x20 black pearl flamed granite laid on concrete. I am advised by a tiler that he would start by "priming" both the concrete and under the stone. After this dries (about 20 minutes I think he said) glue granite directly to concrete. I assume this means I need to get the concreter to be pretty accurate on his concrete height to ensure the total height (concrete + granite) meets my final level requirement. The tiler stated to take into consideration 20mm of granite + 10mm of glue. 1. Is it ok to glue the granite direct onto concrete (after priming)? 2. Is feasible to expect a concreter to get the height very accurate per my requirement AND ensure the concrete is very smooth to glue directly onto, or, would it be preferable to get the concreter to do a lower base and the tiler screed (is that the right word?) to get the level? Thank you in advance to anyone that can offer their input. Re: Granite and new concrete level 2May 09, 2015 2:52 pm gluing granite direct to slab is fine so long as the slab is perfectly flat and has the correct falls. I use Mapaei Kerra Bond plus adhesive with iso50 additive. its a class c2a adhesive and will adhere to the stone and slab. Not all glues are suitable for your application. The notch trowel to use is an 8mm. it compresses to about 4-5 mm thick once stone is installed. If the slab finish is steel trowel smooth them mechanical or chemical etching will be required. I would suggest a steel fresno trowel finish with a broom finished applied over the top. the broom finish will help to act like a key for the adhesive. You can install the granite using mortar aswell if required. keep in mind if the granite is cheapy stuff it wont be calibrated for thickness overly well so glue may not be a feasible option to use.
