Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Jun 22, 2008 9:18 pm Firstly hello!! have just registered after reading quite a few topics. My wife and i have been in our new house now for 12 months, and its starting to take shape, but more of that elsewhere.....
i am doing some a large area of paving down the west side of the house, and need some help. The area is about 14m long by 5m wide, and there is a small slope to the ground, nothing huge, but enough to have to deal with it. When they built the house, they had to fill the west side of the block, so now i have a house that sits higher than the actuall land it sits on, which is where i need the help. I need some advice please on how i can make sure that whatever base i lay will not be eroded away. These are my ideas/// 1. use treated pine as a border, put in crushed rock, compact this, then morter in the edge pavers OVER the treated pine (i dont want to be able to see the treated pine), fill in with sand and pave the rest... 2. Put in concrete footings to the height required and then morter the edge pavers on top of the concrete and then fill the rest with crushed rock/sand etc. Any ideas/advice on which way is better/cost effective? Thanks for the advice, and for reading!!! Re: Raised paving help for new member 2Jun 23, 2008 10:21 am Welcome to the forum bandicoot,
Sorry can t help with your question but I'm sure someone esle will. We love photos here (also helps explain things) so if you get the chance, snap away. Paula Re: Raised paving help for new member 4Jun 23, 2008 7:48 pm You could even build a besser block retaining wall, just make sure you drain th area properly whichever way you go Re: Raised paving help for new member 5Jun 24, 2008 10:23 am Thanks for the advice. Think i will just do a concrete border to hold it all in. There will be a garden/waterfeature at the end of the paving agasit the fence side so i will be sloping the paving to head down to this garden, which will hopefully take care of the drainage.
will try and get some photos soon! Re: Raised paving help for new member 6Jun 24, 2008 7:14 pm I meant the drainage under the paving, i.e. drain along the retaining wall not into it. Re: Raised paving help for new member 7Jun 25, 2008 8:34 am yeah, i probably didnt describe it as best i could, its not really going to be a retaining wall. the height of the pavers will only be about 125mm of the ground, so its not a huge height that i need to build up, and i will be putting in agi pipe under the garden beds where the pavers lead too as well. I had 28m2 of engineered pavers laid six months back and it was difficult to find someone not taking the pi$$. Internet suggested it should be $85-100/m2 to lay them.… 3 12385 As most others have posted above the install isn't compliant. The pipe is meant to be covered in loose soil or sand, the pipe has holes in it that leaks out a termicide… 10 5727 |
