Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Jun 14, 2008 3:41 pm Hi All, we have had our driveway done within our contract of our builder. We asked for coloured concrete with a cobble patterned border. We knew that the border would be hard to see as we wanted it the same colour as the drive but were going to colour around the border ourselves later. Our dilema is we asked for coloured concrete as stated ( as its not as slippery as faux brick or stenciled) with the border but got grey cement with a splash or colour on top and the grey can be seen througn the stop as well. The other dilema is that the day the driveway was poured was end of june and puring with rain and the painter drove on the drive 2 days later. We now have cracks that have been there from about 2 weeks after pouring. Some of them you can fit a 20c coin in and run almost 2 mtres long and there are hundreds of spider cracks which are visible when it is wet. There is also now a rust coloured line mark coming up through the driveway and I have been told that this is rio rot!!!! We have complained continously to the builder with no response but that its normal and that is what we paid for, it jus tdepresses me as we spent nearly $280K just on the house and the first comment people make when visiting is "what happened to the drive"
We are going to put a complaint into the BACV but I just wnated to know if anyone elses thinks we have a case. I would add some pics but I am unsure on how to do this. Thanks Re: Driveway Dilemas 3Jun 17, 2008 8:55 am Sorry to hear of your problem you will need to put it all in writing and send to the persons involved if no reply than take them to court you may also try and ask these guys at http://johnbridge.com/vbulletin/index.php

Do you have this in writing? Is it clearly stated in the contract what you asked for? If so then you have a case. Re: Driveway Dilemas 5Jul 24, 2008 2:53 pm if it is not in writing then it does not exist, hence no case.
QED if all it says in wring is "coloured" without going into specifics then you may have gotten just that "coloured" sorry not what you want to hear I know. do as the others have suggesteed and lodge complaints and drive the builder nuts, stand up to them as their tactics are to ignore you till you go away. To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9863 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10949 |
