Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Nov 13, 2014 12:01 am I've been in touch with some driveway companies I found on get-a-quote type of websites. Two have given me estimates over the phone. o The house is 218m2 single storey in Springfield Lakes. Handover "roughly" around Oct 2015. o Builder has estimated 45m2 for driveway and path to the door. o Estimate $75/m2 for exposed aggregate. o An additional $200-$400 to make the driveway one complete mass going over the foot path. Includes removal and disposal of foot path. o My backyard alfresco area: approximately 16m2. Plain (brushed?) concrete for $60/m2 o one company asked me to pay $500 for a pump (?) I'm just checking here to see how reasonable they are. And if I have any room to negotiate the price. I'm after the best value. Not necessarily the lowest price. Are there other 'hidden' costs I need to consider? Any and all constructive suggestions opinions and advice are encouraged and welcome. Felipe Re: Getting a driveway done. What base preparation How the joints will be constructed There is some more information at this link: http://www.anewhouse.com.au/category/co ... /concrete/ The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! If so, then any pricing you get on quotes now are quite likely to be very different then. By all means, do your research early so you know what to expect, and get feedback from people here in the 'gotchas' to look out for. Springfield Lakes Qld 4Nov 20, 2014 10:49 pm did you end up finding one locally, as i am looking as well. i got one locally from word of mouth for about $100/m2 (for 65m2) exposed aggregate using Neilsen’s Exposed concrete mix. he uses F72 steel mesh, 100MM THICK OF 25/10/80 MPA and uses bar chair. another one was charging $65/m2 , he hasn't told me which type of specifics he uses. and yet another one which was about 90/m2. Re: Getting a driveway done. Springfield Lakes Qld 5Nov 21, 2014 8:15 am Hi felipe1982, If you doing it now for budget purposes for something thats almost 12mths away i'd be allowing $120 sqm for the exposed that would include acid wash and sealing. Hard call on the pump without seeing the site but I never see many pump hire bills for less then $800. poohbear $100 a sq is a reasonable rate at the moment, if that includes acid wash and sealing. The other big item is finding someone to actually do it for you. Re: Getting a driveway done. Springfield Lakes Qld 6Jan 03, 2015 11:06 pm For that area I recommend Justin from 1800 do it now (1800doitnow.com.au - i think). He did our last driveway in Camira. From memory it was around the 70sqm mark but they did a fantastic job really, very professional and worked with us on everything we wanted. I am having them quote at the moment on my new build in Springfield. Building a modified Simonds Palisade in Brentwood Forest. We'll meet again in a few months when it's time for me to build a driveway. Cheers Re: Getting a driveway done. Springfield Lakes Qld 8Jan 16, 2015 5:44 pm The prices you have sound "fair" Just be careful it may be plus earthworks at cost. This can be a hidden cost so make sure you clear it up. Also check if the exposed prices include sealing. For $75m2 it might not. As far as thickness, mesh and strength you will find most use the same, but doesn't hurt to ask. Definitely clear up earthworks cost and sealing. Some include this if they carry their own dingo for eg, others just assume you know it's plus earthworks Use a product like Equisol's Vitalise to clean the deck then coat with a penetrating timber oil.
